Something wrong with line or router?

Hey guys, for a few weeks now my speed seems to have dropped a bit, not massively, just enough to make me wonder if something is going on. I've attached a speed test below that I've just done and the download speed used to be above 70 mb/s so not a really a big deal.

The upload used to be above 16 mb/s though, so that has dropped.

The ping as well, for some reason thats showing over 100ms when it used to be around 18ms.

Is something going on here with my line or maybe my router?

Can you run and link to a Thinkbroadband speedtest - mainly because it can give additional info in the speed graph and tests single and multi threaded.

Also, do a BT wholesale speed test and do the advanced bit which should give you the IP Profile information which will give an idea of whether it is throughput or actually connection speed.

The Thinkbroadband speed test gives me this.

1. Best Effort Test:

Download Speed : 66.52 Mbps

2. Upstream Test:

Upload Speed : 8.87 Mbps

3. Ping 82 ms

I can't run the further diagnostics on the BT one as it just says there is an error when it's running.

Your ping is actually 32ms on that Thinkbroadband test, not 82. Still a bit high.
Are you using wired or wireless? If wireless that could be the issue.

Otherwise, DLM may well have put you onto interleaving. Try a command line 'tracert bbc.co.uk'.
If the second hope is around 15ms or more you are probably interleaved.
Not much you can do about it, depending on the reason it may go away after a week or more, or it may be that you are unlucky and your new speed is there to stay.

Yes, it's 32 on the Thinkbroadband test but it's 82 on the BT one and over a 100 on the speedtest.net one.

I certainly hope it's not here to stay, there was no issues before so no reason for it to stay like this now.

The first hop values to your dsldevice are oddly high, they should usually be 1ms or <1ms.
However, as they others are sensibly low it indicates nothing too bad happening; probably just a router that prioritized tracert packets very low.
The 14ms 2nd hop makes it difficult to be sure if you are on interleaving or not; I get nearly that and I am not interleaved.
Overall 14ms to bbc isn't too bad; the others are sometimes a bit higher than they should be, but not by that amount.

You didn't mention if you were on wireless; that could still be the issue.

Unfortunately no issues in the past doesn't assure the same in the future; as more people get connected to your cabinet there can be crosstalk issues that lower you speed. They are trialing experiments to get over that, but ...???

So, your upload is still over 16Mb/s on TBB test (just over 17 in fact).

The download may have dropped a little due to crosstalk from other lines - not unusual.

The ping to BBC is 14ms so if you are getting bad pings elsewhere it is either their end or something in the path that is the problem. It could be that one of the PlusNet interlinks is having problems to specific sites rather than a problem with your line.

All in all I don't think your line has any major issues.

Yes the Thinkbroadband test looks ok but the BT, speedtest.net and a speedof.me test didn't look ok.

Also I downloaded the 512mb test file from here and only managed to reach at most 5MB/s although it was mostly under 4MB/s.

Downloading with utorrent before as well and couldn't get above 4MB/s when I normally get 8MB/s.

The other speedtests don't test your connection. They are showing issues somewhere outside of your connection.

So, it could be contention at PlusNet. Could be issues with PlusNet interlinks. Could be issues with PlusNet gateways. I believe others have reported some issues with speeds on torrents recently.

What it is unlikely to be is issues with your physical line.
