Plus Net Fibre Router?

Hi, I have two questions if anyone can help.

How good is the router supplied by Plus Net?

Is there also a modem which sites before this or does the router do both tasks?

It requires a modem
It is a very basic router which works
If you have wifi problems - thick walls etc. - then you may well find the wifi signal isn't adequate

It does not require the BT openreach Modem as it's an All In One unit so it's built in. It's got a Broadcam chipset and is as solid as a rock. It can be set up in seconds on any ISP. It's got a decent wifi range but only 1Gbps port. Considering it's on FTTC then the 100mbps port is enough (will max out about 96mbps which FTTC does not yet do anyway)

Billion 8800NL was great all in one including VDSL2 modem with broadcom chipset on it and work well with G.INP enabled but the wifi is not at his best (only 2.4GHz support) but 1 lan port of 1GHz to pc by ethernet direct cable will be fine for FTTC 80/20.

I use one of these.Bought about a month ago for a shade over £60.

The wifi on the PN supplied router was so awful that my temporary fix was to cascade my old P supplied modem/router (585v6 or v7 I think) to provide wifi. A bit of a faff and a mess of cables but it worked. The TPlink solution is much neater, the wifi works (dual band too) and gives me proper diagnostics without having to hack the OR supplied modem.

Will a normal router do initially? I currently have a couple of routers here I could use, although I could do with something better in the medium terms.

I'd rather not spend the money now if I can avoid it as I've just written my car off and need to buy a new one (minimising expenses where I can, but the switch to fibre will be cost neutral unless I need to buy a new router).

Or you could use a BT Home Hub 5

Has all of the above, Plus 4 x 1 gbps ports, and Wireless AC

Plenty on Ebay / Gumtree, New or second hand and they cost buttons.

Did some reading and apparently I will need a new router regardless.I'll take a look at the suggestions; one key thing I need is reliable WiFi

Presumably because all the routers you have are ADSL routers with built-in modems, whereas you need either a "cable" router with a WAN port (cheap) or an all-in-one VDSL router/modem (relatively expensive). Why not take what is on offer free (or virtually free) and see if it meets your needs?
