I had very similar thoughts to camie - Plusnet are tasked with being the cheapskates alternative to BT and therefore will have lower spec. products. Now BT Retail are changing Infinity 1 it leaves space for Plusnet to move up.

You were correct in thinking you were not moved to 55/10, but remained on the slugged 80/20.

From those figures I would say that is still the case.

BT moved all 40/10s to 55/10 eighteen months ago, if their lines warranted it. I don't think that is anything to do with this PLusnet change..

I would say that with Plusnet having been positioned to fight TalkTalk, it hasn't had a chance since TT moved from 40/2 to 40/10 earlier this year. In my opinion that is a far more likely reason than what BT is doing.

BT isn't changing Infinity 1 at the moment. It seems it is upgrading selected longer-term customers to 80/20 and no price increased. Basically a voluntary same-price retention deal speed upgrade for those that can get it.

It is still selling Infinity 1 with no price change.

I am one of those 40/20 users who was moved to 55/10 many months ago. My line still syncs at 80/20 but the download and upload speeds are throttled by PN to 55/10. Since PN are presumably still paying OR for 80/20 I don't quite see the point. Unless OR charge PN for 55/10 but still connect at 80/20.

The only explanation that would make sense to me would be that Openreach had an offer to CPs for a while of 80/20 at a low price that would stay in force for some very long period. Which hasn't yet expired.

Ummmm. Maybe there's a more likely one. Another Plusnet cockup!

I think you could be right, about a PlusNet cock-up The 40/20 customers were all on the 80/20 product and PlusNet changed the caps to 55/10 with the intention to change the openreach product to 55/10 in due course, looks like that never happened for some customers!!

Out of curiosity I decided to check my router stats again.

System up time was 343 days, downstream 79997, upstream 19999.

Th cabinet is about 400 feet away from me.
