In reply to a post by tommy45:
PPPOE session drops are common with plusnet , i would be lucky if they didn't drop the session in any month, they probably do this to balence traffic load,

For me, at it's worst, it was 2 or 3 times an hour. As I said many other people have experienced the same problem. It's neither normal or tolerable when it happens at that frequency whatever the cause.

It probably wasn't coincidence that switching to Sky fixed their issue as there are 3 different DLM profiles that can be requested when ordering VDSL from BT Wholesale (explanation on Kitz site below).

https://kitz.co.uk/adsl/DLM.htm

Plusnet will by default put the user on the standard profile which is optimised for speed over line stability. I believe that Sky request the Stable profile for new users which drops some speed in favour of line stability.

I used to be a regular on the Plusnet forums and in the past Plusnet have switched users from the Standard profile to the Stable or Super Stable profile on request. You just need to get hold of a staffer that know's what they are talking about. If Gandalf is still working for Plusnet he would be a good person to tag to see if he can pick up your issue.

It doesn't drop any speed in favour of stability.
The line syncs at the maximum rate on all 3 DLM profiles.

It's the MTBR/MTBE thresholds that change meaning DLM would intervene earlier on problem lines.

If a line was suffering from multiple resyncs being on the Standard profile instead of the Speed profile would simply mean the line would be more likely to be banded/capped for breaking the MTBR (mean time between resyncs) threshold.
