I am currently with Zen on an 8meg line and happy. I use my line a lot for online gaming on Xbox Live. Will there be any problems using Sky Max 16meg for this? I believe i have to use their own router? Can i still port forward on it as Live needs certain ports forwarding?
I am with AOL and use my own router, I have never had to set port forwarding for my xbox360, I believe that because I have enabled uPnP it doesnt need prt forwarding.
I have read a lot of threads over at skyuser where they suggest turning it off to keep the connection stable, there are a few ping threads over there and it seems you either get under 50ms or over 70ms if you do get high pings they will not turn interleaving off to try to lower them. http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/polls/8896-pings.html?highlight=ping
i am on Sky max and in my experience Max is absouloutely horrible for online gaming!!! lowest pings i get is 33ms and that is only on the very lucky good days. usually it is soo bad i constantly keep getting disconnected from game servers even though the pings ar eonly about 40-50ms??? and this is even at non-peak times of day, but other days its fine??? its completely random! some days you'll get to play fine but most of the time you'll be hard pressed to get a good connection with a server.
Avoid sky max like the plague for gaming, go for the mid package!
beats me, but it sure does suck. when i complained about it all they did was cap me down to 8meg! even though i could happily get 11-12meg!!! and was done without my asking!
i have only a down attenuation of 32db and noise varies from 7.5db to 10.db, but even with good stats there are very high line errors and gaming is very bad most days. My previous 2meg coneection i used to get pings of like 10-15ms! and connection was rock solid all its life.
