Slow newsgroups anyone? I have the answer

[link to this post]

I recently had problems downloading from newsgroups. The problem I had was even though I had 6 threads downloading, the total speed of all 6 was around 350Kbps.

I checked the settings of the router and found that it wasn't connected so I accessed the options, chose connect and the first time it said there was an error so I waited and it tried again and connected okay.

The speed of the newsgroup downloads increased to average 5Mbps !!!!

Why did Sky not tell me this when I rang up???

Okay here is the settings.

It's at the bottom of Router Status and is the option on the right Connection Status.

On there, there is

Connecting to Server - should show Connected
Negotiation - Success
Authentication - Succes (this is the one that failed initially)
Getting IP Addresses - ..................
Getting Network Mask - .................

Simply click on the Connect button and it should work fine !!

How were you able to download at any speed with your router not connected to the internet.

That`s like claiming you can download with the network cable unplugged from your pc.

I think you are a little confused, or the software you were using to download was telling you porkies and you believed it.

Either way if your router is not connected you can not access the internet, it might as well be powered down.
