Sky Superfast Cap

[link to this post]

I am on Sky Superfast which appears to be caped at 40Mb. Looking at the info in my account my minimum guaranteed speed is 30Mb but checking the Openreach site it states that the upper limit is 53Mb. Is it possible to get more from my line? Router stats below.

Thanks,
Paul

Broadband Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 39999 kbps 8823 kbps
Line Attenuation D1(17.2 dB) , D2(44.3 dB) , D3(67.4 dB) U0(5.8 dB) , U1(34.1 dB) , U2(52.6 dB)
Noise Margin 10.6 dB 6.2 dB

If your minimum guaranteed speed is below 40 Mbps Sky will provision you on the up to 38 Mbps. I know several on the Sky Community forums are in a similar situation and haven't been able to get Sky to budge.

I'm in the same boat with a guaranteed minimum of 32 Mbps but the Openreach checker has an upper limit of 54 Mbps. In fact the line will only support a maximum of around 42 Mbps so I'm not really bothered.

That is a pity. When my Fibre was initially installed Openreach made a few mistakes and had to send a few engineers. One of them told me that the line was capable of 57Mb.

Thanks,
Paul

Unless I'm reading it wrong they have fibre unlimited and fibre max. What are you on?

Was Eclipse Home Option 1, VM 2Mb & O2 Standard

In terms of marketing they merged the max and fibre unlimited products.

In terms of underlying they pick and choose based on the estimates who gets the 40/10 and who gets the 80/20 version

Do you know if this applies to NowTV broadband, as they still have the 2 options to choose from, I chose the higher service as I wanted the higher upload but my min speed is 36Mb with max 63Mb....I hope they don't put me on the 38Mb service as it's £5 a month cheaper and would feel cheated lol
Currently I'm on VM but changing to a BTO service.
It's a new phoneline install so I don't have any history to refer to on BTO BB.

The Zyxel routers that I have display a max attainable speed which is 45-48Mbps even though I have a 40/10 service. The actual connection speed is displayed as 39999Kbps.

The maximum attainable is telling you what the line is capable of rather than the service being provided. So if on a 40/10 service then you should see a connection speed of 40/10 even where the line has a max attainable of over 100.

On attempting to leave sky I was convinced by a sky employee that nothing would change if I changed to sky superfast except the price. The 64mbps would not change as nobody touched anything except the description on the account.. On the activation of Sky Superfast I found an instant speed change from 63788 mbps sync speed to 39999 mbps. An instant increase in Noise margin from 3.1db to 9.9db. At a time where our govt rabbits on about improving broadband the isp's seem to be trying to spread what we already have even further.
