BT 900 Smart Hub 2 High Ping using DMZ

[link to this post]

Hi Peeps,

Put my cancellation in with Virgin Media Gig1 and had BT 900 FTTP Installed. I ran BQM on Virgin Media so I had something to compare to, however I came to find that BT's Smart Hub 2 doesn't support the feature to respond to pings, with some more research I heard the mention of enabling DMZ as a workaround. So I went I to the smart hubs settings and enabled DMZ on one of my devices, to my surprise I started to get some data on the graph but it makes no sense. My lowest ping appears to be 120 all day and some packet loss but speedtest on anything shows great ping responses, wireless devices are as low as 6ms so I'm not sure what's causing a constant high ping on the BQM. Any ideas?

Here's my graph

What device have you got in your DMZ that is doing the response to pings?

Thanks for the reply Ian, it's an Nvidia Shield, it's the only device connected Via Ethernet so I thought if anything that may provide better results?

I hope the Nvidia Shield is well secured as potentially it is now attackable from the Internet.

The next question around ping is what ping response do you get if you ping the Shield from the local network devices? It could be that the Shield has a poor ping response in general.

It's not secured in any way I don't think, I know generally speaking DMZ is very unsafe but I literally just want a day's worth of a graph to get an idea of the quality. I've downloaded a ping app from the play store and this is what I got:

13 packets transmitted, 13 received, 0% packet loss, time 12346ms
rtt min 4.304
avg 18.561
max 60.162
mdev = 21.110 ms
