Advice with graph

[link to this post]

Hi all,

I'm with Trooli FTTP and have been seeing speed drops some evenings from 900Mbps down to 100Mbps.
Last night was one of those nights from about 7pm - 10:30pm
I'd appreciate any comments on the graph if it shows any issues please.

Thank you.

Not so bad last night but still about half the speed I should be getting.

So does this graph show an issue?

You are losing some packets which could be indicative of an issue but could just be that some of the components in the chain are not prioritising pings.

So, nothing specifically on that graph I think that you could pass to a provider as proof of an issue. If you are getting poor speeds then that is an indication that there could be high levels of latency which could be the reason for the lost pings but not definitive. I think it is the speeds that you would need to be talking to your provider about as the graphs are not going to be a silver bullet as proof anything is wrong in this case.

Thank you for the reply, that's useful to know.

Trooli have taken a look and cannot see any issues and none have been reported in my area.
I am starting to think if it's a device in the house that might be causing it but it's a little odd that it only seems to be between 7-10:30pm and with only Sonos speakers on they haven't been an issue before.

It sounds like congestion to me. Do you have ThinkBroadband speed tests that you can post links to as it may be that there is info in there that could give an idea as to the problem?

I don't have any TB speedtests but should be able to get them.

I'm not very knowledgeable with the graphs but wouldn't congestion show on them?

Not necessarily (and congestion is possibly the cause of the red spikes but normally you would expect to see much more difference in the yellow than you are seeing).

Your issue you are actually seeing is not ping responses - your graphs look ok. Your issue is throughput (unless I have misunderstood your posts).

To review throughput issues the speedtester is the right tool. ThinkBroadband has a speed tester and you can do speed tests at both good times and bad times and then see the difference between them. If you are logged in on the main site (separate login to the forum but I assume you have a login for the BQM anyway) then it will store your speed tests for you so you can go back to them. You can also then post links to the speed tests on the forums so that others can see them.

Looks like the packet loss is peak time congestion that's started.

Your best best is to ask the ISP if theres a congestion issue.. to rule that out.

Thanks for the replies.

After being in contact with Trooli reporting the issue they advised I was on the incorrect VLAN for a Business connection and swapped me over.

Peak time speeds have been much improved but I did notice some packet loss last night so will continue to monitor.
