Community Fibre

[link to this post]

Hi all,

How does one set up the broadband monitor for Community Fibre? Just entering the IP, gives me 100% packet loss, so I'm guessing there's something more that I need to do

Community Fibre I believe use CGNAT which means the IP is shared with a number of other customers and cannot be used for BQM. You could ask Community Fibre for either a dynamic or static IP address but they may not have any to give out. If you do get an IP address from them then you would need to make sure the router is set to respond to WAN pings - but I suspect you will never get to this point.

Or if they support IPv6 you could use that.

You can ask when you signup with them to have a Public IP, its a Dynamic IP that is very Sticky due to their DHCP Service is MAC Bound, so you will get given the same IP every time assuming its still available, you can also depending on your router used request for a new Public IP.

BUT, new customers by default will be put on CGNAT unless asked not to be.
In my case a Public IP was part of my T&C for signing up with them, plus I have sent them loads of customers in my area / village that have also been happy with them.

Or they "could" assuming IPv6 doesn't change that often use that (i.e. the routers IPv6 Address and then setup a DDNS for that address and update that every time the IP changes and then use that on the BQM.

Yes, it id doable, but I have found BQM for IPv6 with CFL is not as good as IPv4, well so it was with mine, so I only do IPv4.
