What is this Super Hub doing?

[link to this post]

I have been running my Virgin Media Gig1 connection in modem mode since Monday and the BQM graph has been very flat and stable, but it was last Friday too on the Superhub 5.

Virgin are coming out to tidy some wiring up today so I put the router back into modem mode around 10:30pm last night, you can see the red line on the BQM.

At around 2pm, the second redline was SH5 reboot according to the logs.

What is with the 20ms yellow latency chunks?

There is only one device currently connected to the SH5, a Virgin 360 box.

Are you sure you are pinging the IP address of the correct device (ie whatever router you have behind the Superhub)? It is possible that whatever device is being pinged is not prioritising responses and therefore giving you higher latency on some packets.

Definitely the public IP for my VM connection.

I was thinking that could be the case but as it wasn't the case last Friday for example, I just thought I would ask what the potential issue could be.

The pings and jitter on the connection seem absolutely fine so I am not concered.

It was more a question of what the hub could be doing if there are no devices connected to it apart from a TV box.

You said you had put it in modem mode - I am assuming that means it is no longer doing the routing so what is?

It was in modem mode from Tuesday to last night. I took it out of it last night for the Virgin media visit today.

I have just noticed since getting home and joining the Wi-Fi the graph has levelled out.

Weird

What happened with this in the end?

It randomly disappeared and did not return.

24 hours later I went back into Modem mode with my own router and no sign of it since then too.
