Weird hourly ping spikes.

[link to this post]

Good morning all,

As the title says, I've been getting random hourly ping spikes which are still present even after I have disabled all WiFi radios and disconnected everything apart from 2 LG TV's, I have been running f8lure but have stopped that now, which can take 24 hours.

Basically need to know if anything worth worrying about?

Yayzi's checks don't show anything out the ordinary, so I can only think it's something pinging me?

Current

Thanks.

I'd love a BQM like that!

You're talking about the small yellow spikes? I think that could be simply your router taking longer to respond.

Significantly visible packet loss. Hopefully you've raised a support incident.

I did and VM said it was because I was saturating my line so was normal.. It only happens at peak times. I told them when my contract is up in 2 months time to come and remove the kit and I will go elsewhere. Luckily it's all lose and not in the massive cabinet they tried to give me.

Yes if you saturate the pings can't get through, so you get packet loss on the BQM. If you manage your own enterprise router you could do some QoS to solve that.

Good luck on an alternative. We found VM Business circuits to be very good in our office. (Totally separate from the VM consumer services).

Yep, I'm pretty sure it's normal and running at 5ms just shows blips like this more than usual, just weird it always happens to be on the hour rather than random.

Tcpdump on the wan showed nothing unusual.

Thanks for the reply.

Thanks also for the reply.

Well today I am getting 50%+ packet loss even when the connection is idle. It's not at night just in the day. My Latency is hitting 60ms a lot of the time. As for an alternative. I can get a BT circuit put in I am sure. I'm waiting right now for webpages to load (around 9 seconds) and my BQM looks like someone has stabbed it frown )

I have e-mailed Support again. But I have noticed that my latency is the same uploading in the day than it is downloading at night. It's just downloading in the day that sucks. (and I do upload at full speed - if the software is to be believed)

Just so frustrating.

Edited as I forgot to say this is a managed service so I don't have access to all the QoS stuff. I've also eliminated my WIFI by having it turned off for a few hours
