Tenda V12

[link to this post]

I'm trying to configure the Tenda V12 router for ICMP for the Broadband Quality Monitor but the configuration isn't listed and I can't figure it out. Does anyone here have any ideas?

The options on the router are:

Direction: (presumably incoming)
Protocol: (ICMP)
Rule Action: (Allow)
Source IP address: (presumably 80.249.99.164 copied from the config for Draytek Vigor 2926)
Subnet mask:(presumably 255.255.255.240 copied from the config for Draytek Vigor 2926)
Destination IP address: (tried using the same but it doesn't work)
Subnet mask:(tried using the same but it doesn't work)

Thank you.

I take it that this is firewall config. I will assume that the source address is correct. The subnet mask will then be 255.255.255.255 unless there are multiple sources within the same subnet, but don't bother changing it until you get it working. The destination address would be the router itself, because the BQM packet is going to the router. 255.255.2255.255 would be the subnet mask you require. At least that is what I would try.

Thank you -- yes, it's in the firewall. This doesn't seem to be working. I used 192.168.1.1 and 255.255.255.255. Are there any others I should try?

192.168.1.1 is a local non-routable RFC1918 address - the LAN side of your connection... you need the WAN side - the one you get from visiting (for example ip.me) in your browser. Although that may not be your actual IP address if your ISP uses CGNAT or some other abomination.

Thank you, but that doesn't work either. The IP is probably now correct -- perhaps the outgoing subnet mask is wrong (255.255.255.255)?

If the outgoing IP address is correct, a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255 is OK

This is what I would try if you haven't already

Direction: Incoming
Protocol: ICMP
Rule Action: Allow
Source IP address: 80.249.99.164
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.240
Destination IP address: Router Internal IP (e.g. 192.168.1.1)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

Are you sure the pings are coming from pingbox1.thinkbroadband.com ?

Thank you both for your help -- it started working last night with my IP address and 255.255.255.255.
