Line Problems

[link to this post]

I'm having a number of problems with my line. My ADSL connection keeps disconnecting every few minutes and the event log shows messages like:

GRP Default destination is not routed anymore via gateway 86.133.30.xxx

xDSL linestate up (downstream: 8128 kbit/s, upstream: 448 kbit/s; output Power Down: 19.5 dBm, Up: 12.0 dBm; line Attenuation Down: 42.0 dB, Up: 23.0 dB; snr Margin Down: 7.5 dB, Up: 23.0 dB)

I'm assuming the problem I have is that my SNR Margin Down is only 7.5. But I always thought the line would lower my downstream speed to try and increase the SNR value to a stable one ?

I'm currently in a situation where my line keeps disconnecting every 2-5 minutes but then reconnects with exactly the same values (i.e. downstream 8128 and SNR of 6 to 7.5)

Any idea why ADSL isn't seeing that my line is unstable and reducing my sync speed ? Or any idea's how I can fix this ? I've tried using the DMT tool to increase my SNR to 10 but it didn't appear to make any difference at all !

Thanks,
Mark

hmm strange one, your line is fine you have the fastest speed you can get with a good SNR. Sounds like a line fault myself.

Hello, Yes I've only had this problem with disconnections every few minutes since yesterday. Before that I might have the odd disconnection during the day but not every few minutes...

I'm on the Almondsbury Exchange in Bristol.

Do you have any idea what is causing these faults or when they will be fixed ?

Thanks, Mark.

just been on the phone to our report people and they don't even admit that there is a fault!! ... just know that when i got home last night several of my neighbors came out and asked if there was adsl problems as they have the same issues... not just BT isp customers either.

My woosh test results on my line are the same as they have always been and when connected still getting 7.4meg... no errors. Here in the exchange the guy who was checking the equipment yesterday is not here anymore and still the disconnections so i believe it may be a wider issue.... possibly something to do with the home page story on adlsguide.org about a power supply problem somewhere....
As i am an external engineer.. the ones that come to your house and climb poles ... i can only run the line tests that i have access to. getting further details is as difficult for me as for you i am afraid!!
