I don't believe I have triggered any fup as my torrent speeds have always been terrible and that is mostly how I download.

Even downloading off peek I still get worse speeds compared to my old ukonline 2mb LLU connection. Damn you BT and your traffic management!!!

I thought BT business ADSL was 448k anyway, it would only be higher if your paying extra for Max DSL premium.

Call centre staff have a habit of blaming the FUP when it is actually something simple like you had a slow speed sync event and the IP Profile kicked in.

NOTE: All the BT Retail products have the FUP, but the traffic shaping is on top of this, i.e. you do not need to breach the FUP to be traffic shaped. But breacht the FUP and the shaping on your service is larger.

29.99 + VAT is not going to unlimited as in 24/7 high speed downloads, a bit of a bubble burster but thats the bottom line of the numbers. It may buy you something fractionally better than their consumer products.

Wow, looks like they've caught up with me.

I use to do all my Newsgroup downloading from 7am in the morning so when I got home from work it was all done, and I didn't download anything after 6pm.

But now - I got 24k connection to usenet pretty much all the time now.

What is the point....

It's really about time there was a court case over BT's Alice In Wonderland style 'Unlimited Usage' terms.

Unilimited means unlimited......it does NOT mean 'Unlimited.....but....'. Does nobody at BT have a dictionary ??

So....scrap the word 'Unlimited', and let's then force BT to define just exactly what 'fair use' means. There should be a precise download amount stated, below which 'fair use' applies.....and for Pete's sake can we have a meter of some sort ! It's crazy that the only people who know how much we have used are BT themselves.

100% agree... they should be forced to advertise that connection will be throttled too.

What I find utterly outrageous is that BT provide absolutely no definition of what 'fair use' actually is. It seems to be some totally arbitrary figure.....probably based on reading chicken entrails and dividing your internet use by the square root of your phone number.

What is more....from what I can see, many cases of capping involve a reduction of bandwidth to below what is generally regarded as 'broadband'.

I am just amazed that a case has not yet been brought to Offcom.

In reply to:

Considering that the "Unlimited" product replaced the "Option4" 50GB product, it would be fair to assume that 50GB would be 'Fair use'. However when I was dumped onto the new 'Unlimited' product I was FUP'ed due to going over 50GB by on average 3GB over the previous months and therefore classed as a 'heavy' user.

Not a problem these days though!... (In case it's not obvious, I got my MAC and went to a better ISP)

Technically, BT claim "Unlimited" as your product isn't 'cut off' at any point for going over a set limit, just that your speed is restricted for the remainder of the month.

I completely agree...

As I have no way of knowing what the limitations are or if I'm going to hit them I just consider it inevitable that I'm going to breach them and just use the connection as much as I can... if I'm gonna be FUPPED by BT I'm gonna take as much as I can on the way down.

I find the throttling outrageous too - a lot of the time I'm slightly under 0.5Mbit - I could understand that if I used 200+gigs a month every month - but as I generally only go over slightly (I think) then its rediuclous.
