Upload Questions ?

Hi all,

Currently have the old BT broadband 2Mb with 20GB usage limit which I've been happy with but am considering upgrading to the new total broadband.
Hope someone on here can help me out on a few questions so here it goes.

- I have just got a slingbox for streaming SKY TV over the net so will need a good upload speed so I can use it overseas what will I typically get with total broadband ? (curenty get around 220kbps)

- Would the upload limit be the same as the donwload limit i.e. 6GB ? (currently have 20GB!!! annoyed that option 2 TBB has less for the same price)

- My current 2Mb connection only allows a steady 1.8Mb connection so would upgrading to max ADSL actually allow me a faster speed if I can't even reach 2Mb ?

Will my current Linksys wireless router be good to use instead of the BT home hub as I understand they are a bit flakey!

Upload on max is 448Kbs.

Usage allowances are combined up and down.

Max has more fluctations on download speeds than fixed 2meg circuits as contention is more noticable in peak times but it shouldn't be slower than you already have.

The hub has variable reports, some like it some don't. I've found it to be no problem at all. You don't have to use the hub but it is worth trying for the free telephony.

Just a few more questions everyone.

Having read alot of negative reports about people upgrading to adsl max and then getting lower download speeds than they had before it's got me wondering if upgrading and getting locked into a 12 month contract with a worse connection than I have now is worth it!

Did a current DSL status check and got the following.
Downstream Rate 2272Kbps / Upstream 288Kbps
Downstream Margin 31db / Upstream Margin 29db
Downstream Line Attenuation 15 / Upstream Line Attenuation 7

Also my distance to the exchange is just under 1Km so roughly what speed should I expect on adsl max ?

Your figures look great. I think you should be right up there on synch speeds.

You sure the old 2Mb 20GB product equates to the new option 2?

I'm on the old 1Mb product with 20GB usage but it is actually the same price as the current option 3 (40GB)

Thanks for your replies all - only pay 22 quid for my current broadband something to do with BT together I beleave.

Anyway I've decided to stick as I am for the time been having read all the problems with adsl Max. The flakey connections, traffic shaping and sometimes worse download speeds than they had before has put me off. The only thing I could do with is the better upload speed for my slingbox thingy but I would rather have a lower upload than a fubar max connection for 12 months!

I would be more concerned with the price and usage allowances than the possibility of a flaky connection. Max is very reliable and you have great figures.

In my opinion, fixed speeds have more line faults than max.

Testing the slingbox remotley at the end of the week so my ultimate decision will be then if the current upload speed is not good enough.

Tested current dsl during peak times and the downstream margin (snr ?) had dropped from 31 down to a low of 24 is this still ok for max ?
