Am I Capped?

Hi,

My stats from the Speed Test on the BT website -

IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 2464 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1361 kbps

When downloading, I appear to be capped at 172Kbps regardless of what time it is during the day. I was told that I should be able to get a connection speed of 3.5Mb but it seems to be stuck at 2.5Mb. Even at this speed, I should be expecting a download speed of approx 250Kbps.

IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps

hence downloads around 170 kbytes/s

Is this something I can get raised by calling BT?

What is there to raise?

If I'm connected at 2.5Mb, shouldn't I be able to download at a speed in comparison to this?
I'm currently downloading at a speed less than a 2Mb connection.

That's how the profiles work. It is not a fault

Mind you, he should be on a 2mb profile at that sync rate. Chart below shows sync rates with corresponding IP profile and max throughput.

To the orignal OP, are you connected to the test socket in your master box to try and get a better sync speed by ruling out any internal wiring problems?

Hi,
I'm directly connected to test socket as that is the closest to my computer.
I've spoken to India and they have said that my connection should magically sort itself out tonight.
I highly doubt this as it has been like this for a few days now so will try getting through to a UK based line.

You could try getting them to sort it, but as it exceeds the minimum product specification so BT Wholesale who are a different company from BT total broadband wont do much as to them their is not a fault.

if your modem sync speed stays at or above 2272 for 3 days (ish) you should be rewarded with a 2000 profile.
