Changing my router!!!

[link to this post]

ok guys Im another one of you which is getting this http capping and like the rest of you am completely fed up with it. but today i thought, lets see if this can be solved by ditching the hub and using my older netgear router...... to my shock the dsl will not come throught the line when I use this router......Strange eh.

Anyway I thought ok the router maybe wonky so I borrowed my friends router (he uses this so i know it works fine) and guess what, same again!!!! will not let the dsl come through the line,

So I plug the hub back in and guess what, the dsl comes through and the hub is working fine, coincedence , I think not.

BT are really taking things to a new low , never have I been with an ISP who are so controlling over what you can and cannot do. I feel like a schoolchild who has had his sweeties taken away!!! absolute joke!

"will not let the dsl come through the line"
Does that mean it wont sync or that it syncs but wont connect?
Have you tried switching between PPPOA/PPPOE?
" BT are really taking things to a new low , never have I been with an ISP who are so controlling over what you can and cannot do"
I think you are jumping to (an incorrect) conclusion

you need to make sure you have all the right settings in the router you use, including username [email protected], any password, encapsulation set to pppoa set, vpi/vci 0,38 etc........

i have used over the last few weeks whilst testing my line a negear dg834g, linksys wag54g, wag54gs, wag354g, and a speedtouch 585 and have had no problems getting any of them to connect.

It can usually be [email protected] or [email protected]

I'm using a voyager 2110 which works great on my line, home hub is in its box at the moment!

Before the 2110 I was using a d-link dsl-g624t on the line, I've even used a voyager 105 usb modem on the line before.

Make sure the VPI / VCI settings are set as per Andy's post.
Ecapsulation is PPoA Vcmux
Catagory is UBR

I think that the OP needs to go and configure his/her router. I've installed all sorts of ADSL routers on BT supplied ADSL and they all worked - once they had been configured. Some like the Netgear boxes will configure them selves if you factory reset them. All you need then is (assuming its not BT Business BB) a [email protected] and no password. Works every time.

Works fine here on a Linksys WAG54G. I suspect you have configured it wrongly.
