BT Proxy server is back

[link to this post]

I have tried both the BT speedtest and the one from this site - both fail to work, I then discover that i am once again going through a proxy server.
The ip test on this site reports this:

You appear to be going though a proxy!

Proxy IP 217.41.217.** (217.41.217.**)

Your IP is reported as: 86.134.149.*** (host86-134-149-233.range86-134.btcentralplus.com)

I wonder if this is now a permanent thing?

Edit - the speed test only fails when selecting port 80!!!

Edit2 - just disconnected and reconnected and now no longer being proxied - ???

They seem to have been playing about with proxies for the past week or so. Yesterday I got a new IP after powering down overnight and the proxy had gone away. But it was back this morning on the same IP. Half an hour ago browsing was awful with long delays on some sites like yahoogroups and login problems on eBay. Now I notice it has gone away again and I am back to a speedy non-proxy service.

I have been trying to get an answer to what is going on through the broadband.support newsgroup but Support have not come up with an answer. I suspect this may well be related to the throttling issue and some of the figures being banded about are being confused by proxy delays.

Damn every single time I do a proxy test I don't have one!

I had this earlier as well with the same 217 addresses I tried every proxy test on the web nothing UNTIL I tried to download from rapidshare and it told me that my current address 217.xxx.xxx.xxx was already downloading a file and to try again!!!

What tools are you using or just lagado?

Either http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/aboutyou.ch (which gets upset if there are too many accesses from the proxy address) or http://whatsmyip.org/ - the latter will show an asterisk against your IP address if you are via a proxy and you can see the details by clicking on 'More info about me'.

The proxy has gone away here too at the moment....

Was looking for this the other day but forgot where I placed it.

Again done both tests and nothing perhaps take a screenshot and pop it onto photobucket or imageshack so we know what to look for. Certainly very interesting not had any warnings from rapidshare yet.

Just to say that since I posted earlier I have had a couple of very short dropouts on my mains supply here, and in each case when my router reconnected I had of course a different IP. First time I found I was via a proxy. Minutes later after the second one I was on a different IP range without a proxy for the moment. So it comes and goes and maybe some are never seeing it. It is in fact quite noticeable when you are on it with frequent stalling loading pages, not a nice experience...

Well if BT put me on it they will quickly know about it.

What are the IP addresses of each proxy you have discovered so far? I will have a dig around my documents and see if I still have the ones I found on file.

Found it! This was July last year when I was on this proxy/cache.

bn-cache1.ealing.mdip.bt.net [194.72.9.17]

I have had several, not noted them all down but the following are some of them:

217.41.217.19
217.41.217.23
217.41.217.20

And it appears to be proxy server 1.1 PSBTTEST:3130 (squid/2.6.STABLE6.2.7-5)

The plot thjckens (no proxy still at the moment touch wood...)

Hmm none of them have DNS records like the cache I was put through, they also seem to all go to Kingston or around that area.
