Cant make BT speedTester web site work.

[link to this post]

Hi,
BT speedTester web site will not work for me anymore. It used to work fine, but now it wont.
What happens is, the web page loads, I put in my telephone number, then it starts, then another box comes up asking for my email address, I put this in, then I press enter, then another box comes up saying test error, this happens over and over. any time of day or night.
Could it be something to do with my routers firewall (NetGear DG834) it did work fine with this, but I have just updated its firmware, so could it be something in the firmware that has stopped it working.
What ports are needed to be open for BT SpeedTester to work?
Thanks for any help.

Check the user id you are entering. When I use the BT tester it expects my adsl login user id not my e-mail address.

Thanks for reply.

I'm using BT BroadBand, and you dont need a password, so i'm not sure what I should put in as my login in. also, It never asked for this login before, it always would just run the speed test without asking for a login.

I tried another PC, just to rule out the PC I am using, and it came back asking for this login again.

It works fine for some people at times, even the ISP side of the speedtest tool doesn't work correctly all of the time. Ever since BT Wholesale introduced this speedtester with the database lookup involved its not worked correctly for any more than a few days. Mines not worked correctly for months and months, somebody else I know has to put in their DSL Username in every time even then it fails!

Hi,
Ok, I just went back to the Home Hub, and SpeedTester is working again, but my BroadBand speed has dropped off from 3.7mb to 1.9mb.....yuk! I'll give it 3 days to see if it gets any better, if not, then I'll go back to my NetGear DG834.

Might want to give it a quick reboot to see if the sync speed increases, I gave my hub a small holiday for a few days connected it back up and its never worked so good

Hi Paul,
ok here is my speed test with the Home hub-

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 3500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 4320 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3100 kbps

And here is my speed with my NetGear DG834v3-

IP profile for your line is - 4000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 4544 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3676 kbps

I think I'll give it 3 days to see how it goes.
