Problem with X-Box and BT BroadBand

[link to this post]

Hi,
I am having a problem playing games on X-box live with my BT BroadBand, the problem is I'm getting lots of lag in the online games, and I keep getting dropping from the online games.
This problem has only just started happening in the last week or so, before that, I could play online games without too much lag, but now the online games are becoming unplayable.
My router is plugged into the test socket behind the master socket all the time ,as I have given up trying to use my own wiring, as I get very poor speeds if I do.
I get the lag/being dropped with online games with both my routers, BT home hub, and NetGear DG834 router.

Could anybody please advise
Thanks for any help.

Do you get high pings from your pc?
Try pinging www.jolt.co.uk (at a similar time of day when you experience gaming problems) and post the results here.
Also do a couple of speed tests, and post those results along with the connection stats (line attenuation, connection speed, SNR/noise margin) from your router.

a ping you acess from command prompt.

Start > Run > type into the box "cmd"

Once command prompt has opened type into it "ping jolt.co.uk" ensure the space between ping and jolt then it will tell you the averages at the end which you post here.

Is it a Xbox 360 or an Xbox?

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the help,

BT are now saying that there is a fault on my line.
its an X-Box 360.
The round trip for the ping test was
Min 28ms, Max 30ms, 0% loss

Is the xbox connected via wired or wireless.

If its wireless check that there no other network on the same channel and the ones next to it, as that might be causing interference.

Wireless channels are a pain, you find one that's clear and working great then someone goes and sets up a new wi-fi network without checking what else is around and puts theirs on the same channel as yours.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the help.
No wireless here, as you say, its a pain, and I feel safer with a cable, too many horror storys of people getting into wireless networks.

I really think it must be a faulty line, as thats what BT say, so I shall test again after BT say it's fixed.
Thanks again for all the help.
