BT Traffic Management............................

[link to this post]

gg traffic mis-management... 2.8KB/s on certain iTunes content servers (not all of the store) and its back again on spotify... its not like either of these require much bandwidth <~200kbit would allow them to work fine...

/RANT

not to mention interleaving is an ongoing saga... "promised" that it will be off by Friday... a good month or so so far just to change a simple profile option...

Really looks like I should move ISP frown but theres not many good options here.

For giggles... I just tried spotify via my mobile phone only GPRS here in my room and it managed to double the speed I'm getting via BT (tho still not fast enough 4-5KB/s) maybe I will have to get a mobile BB package to let me actually use the internet during peak times crazy (can get high speed at the other end of teh house).

Ouch 2.8 KB/S you sure it wasnt that certain server as ive not had any problems with DL from Itunes during peak and I get throttled too.

As for the Interleaving I feel your pain and thankfully I only had to call Bt customer support 3 times to sort it. I was passed from one department to the other, they even passed me onto sales even though I told them they wont be able to help. They went throught the scripts, I kept telling them I don't have any other problems just turn the damn interleaving off! In the end I called the sales who were based in UK and told them of my frustration who then transferred me overseas(india) to one of the most helpful chaps who knew exactly what I wanted. He even mentioned the advantges of having Interleaving on but as I had a good stable line with it off I wanted lower Latency in games. It took around a week maybe 3 days I cant remember but sorted in the end.

As you have already been contacted by staff if they fail to sort it out by the date maybe contact the chairmans support, I've read many people having success there.

Unlucky if you don't have many choices of ISP's but maybe you might be better off with a different ISP if throttling is causing peak time problems.

Its deffinatly BT - I'm getting the same from a lot of HTTPS (not HTTP thats running fullspeed) sites aswell...

As soon as midnight comes - thankfully not long now, it will jump straight to full speeds so obviously its BT throttling.

As for interleaving I've been through the helpdesk 4-5 times and fired off about 7 emails about it already since the start of the month and been passed from pillar to post, Anne did seem to get the ball rolling and I was given a deadline of Friday for it being sorted, but I'm not holding my breath.

Problem is ISP wise, I'd probably lose my upload speed (I have ~1Mbit on BT atm) - I'm not sure how O2, etc. would handle the WBC connect. Theres no LLU here except for talk talk and AOL/Orange... not exactly great choices, no cable, theres a variety of Enta resellers but I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole and last but not least everyone I know locally that games on a non BT ISP has ping times atleast 10ms higher than me. (Or that was true before they turned interleaving on).

Because of who they are, or because they are Enta products?

If the latter then vivaciti Surfwise 75 is non-Enta and monthly contract with a 75GB FUP, (not allowance). Titan have just introduced their non-Enta packages as well - they don't actively sell them any more, just support existing ones.

There is also AAISP who would certainly fix the interleaving, should be able to give the upload speed, and although the day-time allowances are small they have big off-peak plus unmetered night-time.

I wouldn't touch enta resellers for 2 reasons...

1 - enta has a very varied reputation and a patchy history.
2 - way too many enta resellers have turned out to be little more than fly-by-night outfits.

We use about 12-15gig peak time bandwidth (and about 40-50gig off peak) so that rules out AAISP - the only one of the 3 I would feel comfortable with anyhow.

I don't know anyone who has used or uses vivaciti or titan so I'm dubious of them, despite the fact they looks decent feature wise and prices are reasonable, their websites don't exactly inspire me with confidence. I'm waiting to see more user feedback before I'd consider them.

I'm very pleased to hear it. As it would be very disappointing to see fly by night referrals agents pimping their wares in the BT Forum.

So. What is the trading status of Vivaciti and what is the address of the firm?

It's not a real company; they exist solely to give you something to whine about.

On the traffic management note... the slow speeds seem to have cleared up - must have been a bad day for BT.
