Web hosting

[link to this post]

With Geocities closing, where do BT customers go for their free web-hosting?
http://view.btemailsonline.com/2009/06/29/geocities_...

Or do we all have to pay an extra £5 per month for web hosting now frown

Well when I signed up for BT Total Broadband the 15MB of web hosting space was advertised and as far as I was aware part of the contract, I've never been told otherwise when I have extended it, only told things will continue as they are.

Anybody looking to leave BT, it's your get out of jail card. Contract me would not longer be valid.

I still have my original web hosting from back in the BT OpenWorld days - can't remeber if it stopped at 50Mb or 150Mb of space in the end and no useage limits lol...

Wonder how long that will continue being supported.

How many ISPs give you free web space these days anyway? A few years back most of them did, but with all the free social websites around and a couple of free website hist is it really worth it?

The same with email, most people would be better off with getting something like a Yahoo or Livemail address, you can take that with you if you move providers and if you want a bit more, then you can pay a few quid a year to get your own domain and email service.

Back to web hosting, you can even get a small site for a small amount a month if you need to.

TBH, I think it is about time ISPs just did what they are suppose to do now and provide access to the net, I am with Bt, but I don't use their BT yahoo stuff.

If you're actually using web hosting/space it's probably easier to buy some proper hosting services.

dream-hosting.co.uk is 10 quid a year for the basic package

I am not with BT for my broadband but I have set up a website for a chum who has BT Internet web space.

Does anyone know if this will be going. As far as I know he is not on Geocities but his web space was from old BT Openworld dial-up days.

Hi - actually the £2.99 BT hosting offer is actually really good if you compare what you get for the money. 5GB webspace, a domain name, about 400 templates, blogs, support etc. Ang probably a lot more secure than going for a "free" product! And its a proper hosting product.

Not even the price of a big mac and fries!!
