cannot obtain ip address

Have been trying to obtain my ip address etc after installing a bt home hub 2.0 (wired connected) have tried obtain ip address automatically with no success, tried bt help line but they could not help me unless i spend £90 for a engineer to come out to me. Is there anywhere where i can get the ip adress etc so i can type it in manually. PLease help. Thank you.
