upgrade to adsl2??

[link to this post]

Hi guys here's my router stats :-

Line state Connected
Connection time 0 days, 0:56:11
Downstream 5,120 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps
ADSL settings
VPI/VCI 0/38
Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
Latency type Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up) 6.7dB / 20.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 47.0 dB / 27.0 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 19.6 dBm / 12.6 dBm

Its been the same or as good as this since bt told me ive been upgraded to adsl2,
which is over 8months ago now, But after reading a few posts on here i can see that im still on adsl.

I have phoned bt a few times now and they tell me the upgrade is done automatic and they dont send an engineer to do this.

how can i get this problem sorted any ideas ?

As you say, that is ADSL not ADSL2+. (You don't mean ADSL2).

If you were originally connected to an ADSL-only DSLAM at the exchange then your line would need to have been moved to an MSAN to get ADSL2+.

You may already have been on such a connection in which case a software setting would need altering.

So no engineer sent to you, but perhaps engineer work needed or done at the exchange. Maybe the work was done but no-one altered the settings for your account.

You just need to keep trying to get someone to see sense at BT. With luck a BT_Care rep here will see your post and get it sorted easily - they are pretty good. The sad thing is that they are needed!

My domains, website and mail hosting - Tsohost. Internet connection - O2 Standard.

Somewhere in your router Config/Settings there should be an ADSL/Line/Connection Mode that might be set to G.992.1/G.DMT/ADSL. If so, you need to set it to G.992.5/ADSL2+ or Auto.

Hopefully BT_Care can help me too, something similar. I was on ADSL then got account changed into my Mums name from my Dads and I thought we would be upgraded to ADSL2+ (ITU G.992.5) but only ADSL2 which gave us a little increase in Downstream sync speed, still same IP Profile. Hopefully if we do get upgraded to ADSL2+ we should see at least 1 or 2 IP profiles better. Hub did connect for an 5mb IP profile but reconnected 12hrs later but slower. My old ADSL and ADSL2 stats below.
ADSL STATS
Downstream 4,704 Kbps
Upstream 448 Kbps
Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
Latency type Interleave
Noise margin (Down/Up) 8.7 dB / 19.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 46.0 dB / 26.0 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 19.2 dBm / 12.4 dBm

ADSL2 STATS
Downstream 4,931 Kbps
Upstream 1,027 Kbps
Modulation ITU-T G.992.3
Latency type Interleaved
Noise margin (Down/Up) 5.5 dB / 5.8 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 46.0 dB / 25.1 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 0.0 dBm / 13.0 dBm

I'm sure I can get more speed on ADSL2+ and even scottmc . I would like to know why I was only upgraded to ADSL2. My Line attenuation has varied between 45db and 47.db. I do know there is another 3-4db for line attenuation on ADSL2+. If I can connect with 5mb IP profile with ADSL2 what can I get with ADSL2+.
Did post a thread in Jan
Did Email BT last wek and still got 2 days to reopen it and this is what BT replied with "I have checked your mothers line and can inform you that it was upgraded to the ADSL2 on 26.07.10. BT always gives you the best speed possible on your line. The actual speed is dependent on several factors such as whether you have internal wiring, our network management policy and the number of people using the internet at the same time. Speeds can be lower in the evening at peak times" I knew this anyway.
I use the Broadband alot more then my mum and upgraded her for better deal and thought SPEED too!

Sorry for long post but I would like better value for my money will upgrade to infinity when it comes BT's RFS date 31/12/2010, can't wait.

You should be getting a lot more than that even on adsl1 going off your line attenuation. Have you tried connecting directly to the test socket behind the master socket faceplate?

I knew I should be getting faster becuase of kitz website and Andrew Ferguson site
I have done last month and in the past but speeds are very similar when in normal socket. Got no internal wiring, Got an BT iplate and a ADSL Filter plate made very slight improvement. Not sure if my external wiring is deteriorating (20+ yrs old) was thinking of getting it replaced about £127.99 and possible cause of lower speeds. Phone is fine.
