A corded phone you mean.

Explanation, corded phone avoids introduction of any hiss from the wireless encoding that cordless handsets use. The change in audio quality is surprising between a good corded phone and cordless.

Sky's level 2 support called earlier and they have said that once BT have finished there work to give Sky a call and they will look into this further, they also mentioned just sending an engineer straight out if the issue remains after the OR work is done.

Hoping that when OR get finished the issue will be gone.

Well OR turned up at about 8:50AM this morning so I went straight out and spoke with 2 engineers and as they were moving everyone to a new pole they put me on slot "1" of the circuit.

One engineer also worked with me at getting everything running perfectly! The line is now running better then before (he said he replaced all the connections and circuits under the road/man hole etc etc).

So i've called Sky and got prioritised and put through to tier 2 support... they have pushed my connection up to 18MB gamer profile but said they would call back at 11 and see if they could push it up any further! Before all this work started I was lucky to get 17500 sync'd.

Right now my line stats are:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 18080 kbps 1146 kbps
Line Attenuation 26.5 dB 15.4 dB
Noise Margin 6.9 dB 8.8 dB

How much more above 18080 does anyone think I will be able to get?

Not much more, and you may find that when the SNR drops this evening you loose sync. This time of day, I have found, is about the best time to resync for max speed but drop outs will happen.

Spoke to OR again and they did some work at the exchange in the night as can be seen from this graph I use to monitor it

Looks like what ever work they did lowered the ping times as well? xD

Could be that your exchange has had a new connection or routing update which removes nodes from the path.

A simple example: New connection from Inverness to London (with repeaters) which removes the old connection which was Inverness to Aberdeen to Edinburgh to Manchester to Birmingham to London ...

Not quite the same but a few years ago when our pole was being replaced the cowboys (not BT) didn't complete the job the same day. The new pole was left flat and a temporary connection was made.

To cut a lng story short, I discovered if I rang MY phone number from MY phone my neighbour would answer. If anyone rang her I would get the call.
