Re: Varying speeds Infinity 80/20

[re: StephenTodd] [link to this post]

Nay, sir!
I've had continuous problems since May this year, when I renewed my BT contract, and was "elevated" to their 80/20 service.
Perhaps 40 calls by me to them, perhaps 15 non-happening, of promised calls back to me, and numerous emails to BT left me where I was - when I made my last post - ie 4meg or 65, depending on which way the wind was blowing.
If you look in the BT threads, you'll see my complaints go back months.
Whilst I can see that it's not BT's obligation to fix my PC problems, it is their obligation to NOT feed me B/S for 6 months, telling me they're working on it/problem fine now sir/problem with your wiring - maybe need engineer visit/send me new HH3: all of this was to no avail, and the root problem should have been addressed by someone senior, with more knowledge than script-reading agents.
If the problem could be fixed with one sensible, in depth conversation with a BT guy who has the grasp of problems, then what's BT's excuse for not putting same or similar, qualified guy, on the case in May - if they were so sure that, given my IP profile was constantly @ 68Meg and this meant there were absolutely no line issues? I don't know if that quite constant IP profile actually translates to a perfect line - but that's what the last guy said.
Regarding AVG - all I can say is that when we disabled AVG the thoughput was consistently 65/68, when the previous day it had been 4Meg!
Time will tell.
Cheers, Les.

Well, I've installed the MS program, and am now keeping my fingers and legs crossed - hoping that it works OK!
cheers, Les.

Hope you uninstalled Mcafee the right way. If not it will continue to haunt you.......

Ha ha, I think you're right!
I did a conventional uninstallation, thought I 'd deleted registry entries as well but, when I did it via your suggestion, it appeared that there was still a lot of c**p left. It appears to have removed it all now - so I pray that the McAfee demons don't come and get me, for daring to remove them!.
Seriously, a couple of days now, with speeds being fine, seem to have addressed the problem - and I hope the MS av software is up to the job.. Other posters say yes - so here goes. Thanks for all the replies from everyone.
Cheers, Les.

Hi Andrew, Hope you're right. Being an MOT tester and not a computer whiz, I'm not aware of all possible complications regarding the actions going on in a PC.
I think I'm reasonably computer literate, but it never occurred to me to look at the AVG - why would it?
As I say, this BT guy - with a bit of detective work and probing - seems to have nailed it down: at least I hope so!
Cheers, Les.

http://schirmfoto.de/2939d9c490 is TBB tester just now - two days on.

http://schirmfoto.de/d77ab33867 is BT's recommended tester
