Re: help! please....no wireless :(

[re: ukhardy07] [link to this post]

As I explained earlier, nothing has changed. No new objects within the vicinity. No changes whatsoever. It faded for a few weeks, so that password had to be re entered into iphone/ ipad. Samsung galaxy's seemed immune at this time. Then over the last 2 - 3 weeks, wireless has gone completely.
Wired is fine. Fast upload and download speeds and doesn't drop out at all.
It's just the wireless. Its in the position that the engineer installed it too.
Yes there is a tv near it. And sky. And there was a ps3 now a ps4. But again, other than swapping playstations, there are no other changes.
And it was working fine with all those gadgets including the ps4.

It seems odd that the password should have to be re-input in the iPad/iPhone. Normally and wireless device should just "remember" it. When you say the Samsung Galaxy devices are "immune" does that mean that the work or simply you don't have to input the password?

Since this is a wireless problem what form of security are you using? WPA2 / AES? WPA2/TKIP?

You could try turning the security (in the router) temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Install an app in the phones to see what is going on in the wireless around you. I use "WIFI analyser" on my Android phone. I do not touch Apple devices so cannot suggest what to use there. You need to see what the signal strength is like throughout the house for both your network and others ideally for multiple devices.

BT Infinity 2 - IP profile 77 / 20 - super fast!
Previously BE Unlimited - 21,000 Download 1,200 Upload but then moved house - 6,500 Down, 1Mb/s up - gutted!
Ex <n>ildram , been to SKY MAX - 15,225 Download

This appears to be the earlier version 2, free.
Why go to an intermediary when you can get it str8 from the horse's mouth? See: http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/bt/t/4320988-re-hel...

This may be a silly question.

Are you using the default SSID (network name)? It could be that there is another router nearby with the same network name and that you are connecting to that and failing the security because password is wrong.

This is a long shot but is remotely possible.

Looks like I've got lots of things to try.
Thanks everyone.
The galaxy's don't need the password inputting constantly. They remember it which the apple products don't seem to.

This kind of thing. PAT-330 2.4G Wireless AV Sender Transmitter Receiver AV TV STB Extender. The problem with them is the amount of bandwidth they require means they use most of the frequency range used by wifi. As a result they don't get on well together. An IP based network using a media server is a much better solution anyway.

Duh! You obviously couldn't be bothered to read on from that quoted in my linked post to my reply pointing at the still free version 3 in their archives!

Speed reading is incomplete reading!

Buy inSSIDer 4!

Only reason to buy 4 is if you need AC wireless support. Free version 3 does G and N very well, and both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands

From Google this is a possible alternative (NB: I have not tested)
http://www.xirrus.com/Products/Network-Management-an...

On a Mac there is just but one choice, WiFi Explorer on the Mac App Store, for £1.99 its a no brainer:
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/wifi-explorer/id4948...

James BT Infinity 2 19/09/2012 - Sold 42/6 - Getting 49/8.5 - Sync 53 / 9.5 Mbps @ 470m approx
14 years of broadband (ntl: cable to BT FTTC) - Router: Asus RT-N66U - Modem: Huawei HG612 speedtest

It so happens that I have both Versions 2 and 3.

Given that the OP has little or no experience generally, I think that Version 2 would be the easier for her to use; and 3 is not much different technically - but a bit more confusing for a first-timer to use.

---------------------------

As a Scotsman, I was NOT recommending her to purchase Version 4, simply drawing attention to the fact that Version 4 clearly states a cost; and I had been unable to find a Free Version 4, both when it first came out, getting confirmation today by following through that link; and COPY/PASTE the metageeks site's own statement.

=============================

I have now followed through your link, producing-

SOFTWARE VERSIONS AND RELEASE NOTES
inSSIDer Office For use with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8
Version 3.1.0.100 (July 31st, 2013) Release Notes Download

inSSIDer 4 Windows & Mac
Software can be found at inSSIDer.com

inSSIDer HOME For use with Windows Vista, 7, 8
Version 3.1.2.1 (December 17th, 2013) Release Notes

inSSIDer for ANDROID available at the Google Play Store
contact support if you cant access the GooglePlay Store.

Bearing in mind that the OP is inexperienced, consider what your link has presented her with, also bearing in mind that she is in a HOME environment.

She is presented with four apparent options-

inSSIDer OFFICE - ?? Is this appropriate for her HOME use?
Version 3 ... Release Notes & Download

inSSIDER 4 - (Has to be purchased etc)

inSSIDer HOME - Apparently what she would want to use; but~
Release Notes (only, no Download link given)

inSSIDer for ANDROID - Could she use that, she has not mentioned ANDROID devices.

-------------------------------------------

The link I gave takes her straight to a simple download site, so she can confidently access a version quite suited to her requirements immediately, without further action.

She has enough to contend with, without further uncertainty.
