Does seem to be DNS related...

ipconfig /flushdns made no difference.
Changing to OpenDNS servers made no difference (tried it about 30 minutes ago)
Changing to GoogleDNS servers (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4) and suddenly everything is working again AND latency is back to normal (so it was BT's DNS "servers" which were slowing everything down).

Well it looked like a issue at telehouse but did not get much further than that because it came back

It seemed like DNS at first because there was a routing issue stopping you from getting to BT`s DNS server but googles where reachable lots of other UK sites where not contactable

Sites I visit regulary working again. I think we're back in business. Wonder what happened though........hm

It seems I fixed it - the problem disappeared at exactly the same time I switched over to Google's DNS.
Now I'm back on BT's DNS it's still all working.
Coincidence??? I think not
