It seems I fixed it - the problem disappeared at exactly the same time I switched over to Google's DNS.Definitely your fault. You somehow set up an internal loop at the BT routers causing self-DDOS attacks between them. As soon as you switched your DNS servers you broke the loop and everything slowly came back as their buffers cleared.
Now I'm back on BT's DNS it's still all working.
