It shouldn't but initially there can be some tweaking for stability A bit like the 10 day period you used to have with ADSL. Also if you have any of the sport or tv services initialised they can tweak your QOS settings to allow for the proper amount of bandwidth when it is needed by these services which will of course affect your download speeds at the times those services are using it but otherwise should be invisible to the end user.

Edit; a few typos.

Thanks for that.. I still think the speeds are amazing given the length I am away from the cab

Your speeds are maybe a little better than expected. I am at 600m (measured cable length) from the cabinet and get 58/19 normally and have done for 2 years or so - except when it decides to give me 67/10 - yes I loose upstream and gain down.

If you are 500-600m, and getting 71/19 then that is pretty good - your original 79/19 was exceptional and I am not surprised it has fallen.

I'm around 700m from the cabinet by road- the cabling appears to mostly run along the pavement- and am currently getting an estimate between 60/19 and 80/20. Whenever I get my MAC code from BT, I'm hoping I get the former but either will be an upgrade from my current 2.5Mbps/448Kbps.

Hi - new Engineer (Infinity 2) install here too about a couple of hours ago
Does this all mean the speed I have now is as fast as it will get and it doesn't get any faster? Estimated speed was about 56MB, and I'd say about 400 metres from the green box
Just done a test now
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3724531448
This was with a LAN cable straight into the router

This is from helpdesk - I am 95% certain I have not reset anything, so not sure why #5 doesn't show more time
5. VDSL uptime: 0 days, 00:17:16
6. Data rate: 7846 / 40201
7. Maximum data rate: 8107 / 43324
8. Noise margin: 6.5 / 7.5
9. Line attenuation: 0.0 / 18.4
10. Signal attenuation: 0.0 / 16.8

Probably made the schoolboy error instead of location the router in the master socket, getting them to run a LAN cable to the computer room, but didn't want to be running computer off wireless (he did offer to move the master socket for me)

Personally I would say that is very low. I am about 400-450 m from the nearest cab and I get 76/20 and since an engineer visit a few weeks ago to fix a connection problem I am getting 76/19 solid.. Sure you are not on Infinity 1, though even then, I would expect to see your up speeds closer to 10 Mbps for I1.

Test it running the router directly in the master socket to see if it makes any difference as it could be some internal wiring problem is part of the issue with regards the low speed.

As to the up time that could be due to 'work' from their end or the line losing and then re-syncing as it settles down. But again, personally, if you are 400 or so from the cab I think that a very low speed for I2.

BTW, what does http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ say is your profile when you click the advanced button after the initial speed test..

Edit: typos and added last sentence.

FTTC starts off at its fastest possible speed and the DLM only intervenes to slow you down or add interleaving for error correction.

Openreach, Kelly's or Quinn's?

Is that a "Data Extension Cable" coming off the unfiltered connectors on the back of the interstitial plate?

Yep it will be, not coming out of the front of the socket - the top half of the master socket has been with an openreach branded socket as well as the main socket for the phone line

This goes to an uneventful looking socket where the router is plugged in (but read the next post)
