You are aware even if you disable the Wi-Fi on the Home Hub the BT FON / BT Wi-Fi is still running on it.

To disable that you need to disable it via the MyBT Page if I recall.

Yes, as far as I am aware.

A lot of people don't opt out, but use a 3rd party modem/router, that way you can still use it when about and not have to give up any of your bandwidth at home.

But annoyingly still shows up on your available wi-fi hotspot list which wastes your time trying to connect to. Appallingly antisocial behaviour to my mind, like hoarding sweets you will never get round to eating but hate to offer them to anyone else.

I am opted in and still use a BT device. I don't think anyone has ever connected to my BT WIFi - except me when trying things out or visitors who want a quick connection rather than having to gain access through me and the passwords ... and even then the effect they have is barely noticeable.

I was unlucky when I was opted in and on ADSL2+, we had a few times when it was bad, so we opted out and was then ok.

Maybe I was just unlucky LOL

I doubt the two things were linked. All your traffic gets priority over the BT WiFi so you should not notice a difference if you start torrenting or something similar AFAIK.

I suppose that is a good point. If someone's BT internet connection is iffy in the first place then best not trying to use their BT Openzone wi-fi hotspot but move on to the next one down the street that has a good connection.
