BT, VM, PlusNet, Gamma, Zen to name a few. It was like Linx went down or stopped routing or some where like Telehouse went of line but they didn't it was very strange.

Like a major infrastructure provider (Linx Telehouse etc) had issues but there was no problem which I could find on any of them.

That sounds about right, when I did a traceroute all I could get to (well was displayed) was the #telehouse.ukcore.bt.net and then all after timed out.

Maybe its just me, but I have just noticed is that the hops are less than what it was before the outage, so maybe BT has routed round the issue ?

I am now getting 8 hops to the BBC Site where I think it use to be a few more like 12.

Without a before and after it would be hard to even theorise where the problem was, its fix now which is what matters

It was only BT IPv4 that I can see. My v6 continued without a problem.

That is interesting, I only do a BQM on the IPv4 address due to its easier to do.

That could also be why some stuff was still working.

Thanks. Interesting and explains why I didn't notice any problem but got a message saying that one of my servers had lost its connection.

Wow, we just lost internet once again and this time we lost the phone as well.

The ONT LOS (Loss of Signal) was constant lit RED and was down for another 10 or so mins.

This is starting to become a reoccurring thing LOL

Loss of signal on a fibre ONT is very different from an IP routing issue, and much more likely to be localised.

Do remember too that the broadband politicians are saying full fibre has no outages or slow downs

Hi Paul, I wonder if you could indulge me?
I'm curious why you'd laugh out loud at your issue.
It seems so many speech affectations have become commonplace nowadays.
Another one is starting every sentence with "so".
This American silliness gets in everywhere.
Cheers, Les.

Paul

You have had a break in the FTTP signal. Sounds like someone / something disconnected a splitter or took the OLT down. Nothing to do with the general internet access.

If it was only 10min it wasn't a fibre break, but sounds like someone working on a piece of kit somewhere in the Head end exchange or in the route to you from there. Could even have been a software/firmware update to the OLT with consequent network reset.

Oh I know it wasn't a routing issue, but a lot of people in London lost their connection, my EE Mobile was down as well, well the data side was down, didn't check my mobiles phone service.

All I could do is wait for it to come back up, luckily it was only 10 or so mins, but when it came back up I did a check on downdetector and seems most of London lost it at Midnight also, so not just me.

Now maybe they all might of been on the same exchange as me and it was an exchange issue I cannot tell.

But according to downdetector it was showing it down for pepople in London, some in Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford, and a few other places.

Also downdetector showed that ISP's TT, BT, Sky, EE, Vodafone, PN, and a load of online services were also down or having issues at the same time.

So maybe BT Engineers were working on some cables in London etc hence it only being 10 or so mins.
