In reply to a post by Realalemadrid:
As my previous post seems to have been ignored by yourself and other posters and you have not confirmed that your reported 7000Kbps speed was actually a typo

See here … https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/bt/t/4788587-re-un...

Do you really believe the line was syncing at around 7000Kbps with a 4dB SNRM and suddenly resynced at full speed, I don't, and other posters are also dubious, incredible being an apt response.

In view of the fact that around a year ago the line was syncing at over 72000Kbps with a 4dB margin does suggest that the Op is mistaken.

Maybe only one wire of the pair was connected before, and someone has tightened up a screw or something in the cabinet, so now both wires in the pair are connected? Did you used to get dial-tone?

As others have said, it's not impossible you've been moved from a distant cabinet to a nearby cabinet. A speed of 7Mbps would imply you're ~3km from the cabinet, 80Mbps means you're probably within 300m of the cabinet.

But I think it's unlikely that your FTTC connection has been optimised in this way, given the major focus on FTTP: FTTC is being left to wither away.

Your suggestion of moving to a closer cabinet is a total fallacy if the sync speed was over 72000 Kbps a year ago.

No, I posted to point out the OP had answered your question.

Yes, it does seem highly unlikely. But in the weird and wonderful world of squirting digital signals down archaic bits of wire, sometimes truly odd stuff happens.

If it was 72,000kbps a year ago, then dropped to 7,000kbps as the poster said (and who are we to judge?), and then back to 80,000kbps now, that would seem to be a wiring fault which has been fixed.

Only the OP can answer why, after noticing the drop from 72M to 7M, they didn't raise a fault at the time.

You were connecting @ 72Mbps last year, so if it had dropped to 8Mbps there must have been a fault or severe interference which has now been removed . Maybe I fixed it for you during the course of my work? The reduced SNR does not account for the dramatic change
