Windows login screen

I've just installed a netgear DG834G router and usb adapters on my PC's, I am now greeted with the windows login screen on each PC when they boot up, I'm running XP sp2 and there isn't any user accounts or profiles set up.
Likewise when I shut the PC's down the closing dialogue has changed to a rectangular box with the options in a drop down list.
Is there anyway I can get rid of the log in screen ? and go back to the normal shut down dialogue ?

Exactly the same happened to me, it's caused by your wireless drivers. Do the following:

1) Uninstall the card's drivers on each machine.
2) Allow windows to detect the cards and guide it's driver install wizard to the location of the XP drivers on the wireless card's disc.
3) Let windows do the install magic, and you should find that when you reboot the problem is gone.

Hope that helps you, like I say the exact same thing happened when I used the Netgear's install thingy. Not sure why it happens though.

Thanks, how do I delete the drivers ? do I also un-install the WG111 software ?
BTW it's a USB wireless adapter and not a card like yours ,will it make any difference?

Some software doesn't like fast user switching in XP, sounds like it maybe the WG111 software.

So do you think it's disabled it intentionally ? my worry is -what if the log in dialogue fails,would windows refuse to start up ?

It's just some software is incompatible, all your users will be able to login, but not at the same time.

Sorry, I did mean USB, not sure why I carried on with the cards angle

In any case, remove the USB sticks from the machines, then click Start --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Hardware. Launch that. Find the entry for the WG111 stick and get windows to remove that entry. Close the Add/Remove Hardware box, and then plug in your WG111 stick again. Hopefully windows will pop up a new dialog box asking where it can get the drivers for your new hardware. Pop in your install disc that came with the stick and cancel any auto-launch software that comes up (if it isn't already in your CD-ROM drive) then guide the windows hardware driver wizard to the /drivers/XP/ folder. Click OK and windows should now install the drivers properly without any of the Netgear bumph.

I'm having this log in problem and trying to follow these instructions ,but where is the add/remove hardware icon please ?
In my control panel I have add hard new hardware and add / remove software,is there another way of doing it ?

I think it does. If you havn't already removed the software, you can goto Device Manager inside 'System' in the Control Panel and right click and uninstall the Netgear, then remove the software.

Thanks everyone, It worked but couldn't load the Netgear USB adapter WG111 drivers from the CD I browsed to the CD drive and located the Netgear folder but when I tried to locate the driver folder it greyed out the OK button so I had to let windows connect to the internet to do it.Good job I re-installed the laptop card first so that I could connect to the internet,the laptop card loaded on OK I was able to locate the WinXP driver from the CD.

It's caused by Netgears proprietary replacement for msgina.dll.
