CISCO or NETGEAR parental control

Does anyone use the parental controls with these routers? I want to be able to limit access to the internet on an ipod touch and it seems the router is the only place I can do this effectively, but I would like tobe able to specify broader time/content limits on other devices. Would be glad for any feedback on these routers Thanks

On the Netgear DG834Gv3 you can't achieve what you want. There are only two classes of blocking, that applied to one (trusted) device and that applied to all other devices.

I use the (free) OpenDNS servers but haven't used their paid for services.

I'd guess all routers would work with their filtering service. Mind you what's to stop an individual device on a network from selecting a different name server to circumvent openDNS?

don't need the paid service unless you wast to really customerise things.

All new negear router now can use open DNS system, you can attach you open dns account like most router attack dyndns account

Don't see why you can't do it on the Netgear.

You can Block/Allow by Schedule each device individually (or even a range of IPs) having 1st reserved the IPs to specific MACs.

A simple router firewall rule, block port 53 from lan to wan.

There's ways round most thing's, you have to hope the kids aren't that smart.
I don't think VPN is the way here. Doesn't VPN use DNS from the users network?
