Cabinet is in build stage so 5 months at least before it will be taking orders. I plan to use a modem on its own with my Asus DSL-N55U router as it works well and isnt that old, it is currently in router only mode with my Billion 7800 as a bridge and this is nice and stable.
So could you good people recommend a good modem?

Pick up an HG612 version 3B off eBay if there is one at a decent price. Easy to unlock if there is a choice of cheap locked and expensive unlocked.
You could even use it as your ADSL2+ modem for a few days to make sure it works on that at least. The default configuration is set to train down if that's what it is given.

Is there a section to enter broadband username and password I plan to go with Uno.
Silly me its a modem in bridge mode my router is where I put the username etc, nevermind.
Had me wondering if I'd misread your earlier posts there .
(And you mean it's a modem/router in bridge mode . The router part being bridged over).

Do I have to unlock it? Will it support G.INP out of the box?
Mine is unlocked, but was supplied by Openreach. The unlocked firmware is claimed to have no settings changed other than enabling the "dead" port and enabling telnet and GUI access. (if you load the dual version).
Mine does support G.INP. Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 14989 Kbps, Downstream rate = 59500 Kbps
Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps The Bearer 1 means it is enabled on the line and in use. The zeros are because it gets a tiny amount of bandwith, 200bps I think, so is rounded down.
Unlocking really is dead simple. The most difficult bit is setting the computer you do it from temporarily to the suggested xxx.xxx.xxx.100, though I'm not sure that is actually necessary as long as it is on the right subnet.
And that's only difficult if it's so long since you had any need to go into your network card settings that you've forgotten where they are. Like I do. Each successive version of Windows seems to hide them a bit deeper, even though the settings page when you get to it hasn't changed since Win 3.1 I don't think.
It is a good idea to unlock it, as that's the only way you get access to the line stats.

If locked it doesn't support ADSL, only VDSL. For ADSL you have to unlock it and add the ADSL settings.
But asbokid said he didn't alter any settings? Mine has G.DMT, ADSL2, ADSL2+, VDSL2 set. Not T1.413.

Does it have anything in the ATM settings?
The point I was trying to make is how can I ensure the latest firmware if not unlocking and not on BT. I will be putting the modem next to the NTE socket and using an existing ethernet cable to the router upstairs, so wont be able to access stats AFAIK.
Assuming you have a HG612, the locked modem should be upgraded by Openreach to the latest version over the wire. If you unlock the modem you will be able to access the stats on your network given the correct settings on the modem.
I have never been on BT.
To be able to access the stats you would basically either need to run a second ethernet cable or split out a pair from the existing one and fit a plug for the LAN2 socket. Similarly at the router end.

Even if I order from Uno, will Openreach still update it. I have got one from ebay but the owner didnt know what revision it is, will have to wait and see. Im not fussed on stats because it looks like a hassle unless as on Kitz page you can get stats over WAN ie one wire, will have to look at the Kitz forum.
Also will I have to change the LAN address of the modem as currently it would clash with the router, I see there is a way to do that when the firmware is unlocked to GUI. Current router address and gateway is 192.168.1.1. Dont want to reconfigure all my devices to a new gateway by changing the router LAN address. Some devices are static.
Openreach should update it, regardless of ISP.
If the modem is locked you won't be able to access it so it doesn't matter what its IP address is, it won't clash as it's on the WAN side of your router.
If it's unlocked then you can access the stats over the one wire by giving the modem a private address outside of your LAN and unticking the bound LAN1 port. Because the address is outside your LAN, your router will forward the packets down the default gateway.

Indeed.

... it looks like a hassle unless as on Kitz page you can get stats over WAN ie one wire, will have to look at the Kitz forum. I'm not familiar with whatever it is on the Kitz forum, but the normal way is a second ethernet cable from the modem LAN2 to a LAN port on the router. LAN1 of the modem obviously going to the router WAN port.
Then the modem can be accessed through the router as normal - ethernet or wifi.
Can you get line stats from your Billion at the moment?

Ooohh!
So the second cable can be avoided?
By a private address I'm a bit confused. Same subnet but outside the router DHCP allocation range? Which it is anyway in my, if not most, cases in order to read communicate through modem LAN2. Or something else?
I've found the port binding box I think, on the WAN connection page.

Does it have anything in the ATM settings? Ah! No VCI/VPI, but wouldn't TR069 set those if used by the ISP?

Openreach should update it, regardless of ISP. I'm not so sure that's true now we have mainly self-install.
I was amazed to find my AAISP router came pre-configured to existing OR modem >> WAN port (LAN4), not to use its inbuilt VDSL2 modem .
When I queried it they said that's because Openreach records showed me as having OR modem + router and they always keep it the same. I think it even said HG612.
On self-install I wonder if they bung out updates anyway? It seems unlikely. What we don't know here and now is how Tim's FTTC will be supplied by uno. Self-install with Tim not ordering a modem or modem/router?

Might have to bung the unlocked firmware on to be sure it g.inp ready.
That link is a bit confusing, but it does emphasise it ends up with only a single cable between modem and router. The need for the second cable seems to be only for the setup process, which I think could be done off-line with the modem and computer.
That's how I do the unlocking anyway, just using LAN1 of the modem.
BatBoy may elucidate, or I might have a play around another day.
Or even now ....

Which wasn't a good idea. Dammit.
I now have to start up my wired machine, which is fortunately near the modem, and reset the modem's own IP address .
Fooooooddddddddd calls.

So what's your LAN address and what address did you give to the modem?
Ensure both LAN1 and LAN2 are not bound to the WAN
I was just trying it with a non-Tomato or what else it said router, and also forgot to go through steps 14 onwards at first. Then found I didn't have anything corresponding to the instructions it gave at that point. The need for food then took priority.
I had set the modem to 192.168.3.1 but wasn't gaining access - and yes I had unticked the binding box.
Did a factory reset on it finally expecting that to put it back to the 192.168.1.1 but it hasn't. But I'm working wirelessly and lost connection with it completely. It's still working in bridged mode of course, with no problem.
The wired to router one is now up and running I expect so I can play with sorting it out tomorrow, but have my doubts if I'll be able to get it single-wired with my kit.
We shall see, once I'm not tired and hungry .

Mine does support G.INP.Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 14989 Kbps, Downstream rate = 59500 Kbps
Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps The Bearer 1 means it is enabled on the line and in use. The zeros are because it gets a tiny amount of bandwith, 200bps I think, so is rounded down.
Interesting and a bit strange that the retransmit channel would be so slow, that's if the bits really go at that speed, I don't know how it works.
I have recently unlocked one of these, but no G.INP AFAICT.
Do you get counters for bearer 1 with
xdslcmd info --stats or xdslcmd info --show ?

My full stats taken yesterday.
Don't forget it doesn't completely remove interleaving, but does remove the delay normally associated with that. See the Bearer 0 D: and Delay: lines.

Thanks for that.
It seems I am lucky having a quiet line, underground cable though not close enough to get full speed my stats look quite good after 15 days.
My cab is ECI, so I don't know if I would get G.INP even if I needed it. I did flash with the G.INP firmware.
I notice that this modem, even after disabling QOS gives slightly (20kbit tcp) less upload than my ECI, but can't work out why. With default QOS it would be a lot less = 17800 kbit is the limit I see looking at the settings.
