Router Surge Protection

Hi

I have had 2 linksys routers die on me over the last couple of months due to thunder. I have a Belkin surge protection 6 way socket that does not help. Does the connection to the main phone socket need protecting and if so what is the best way to do this?

As well as the power mains i use a combined ADSL filter with a surge protector which i got from PC World but im sure you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

Make sure that your phone line filter is one made for ADSL lines. Some are made for dial-up modems and do nasty things to ADSL. Of course, you will still have the problem of surges and induced voltages in your network wiring. Wireless anyone ?

I use surge protection as well as a UPS but when there's a thunderstorm around I don't risk it.

I play safe by switching my PC off and unplugging both my PC and telephone line!

Clarity: http://www.clarity.it do one specially for ADSL. I have one and didn't notice any increased attn after it was fitted. Given that I'm on a poor line this really matters.
