Which ST585

[link to this post]

I think i have decided to go for the speedtouch 585 router, i just wanna know something before i buy one, i've been looking on ebay and some descriptions are speedtouch 585(i) v6 and some are speedtouch 585 v6 is that just a description error or are there two types and which one is the best to go for in the 585 range as there is even just a speedtouch 585 on here, so confusing?.

If you look on ebay there are these ones, also what is the difference between that v5 one and the v6 ones as that is a big difference in price and i am about to buy one of these routers?.

Speedtouch 585(i) v6
Speedtouch 585 v6
Speedtouch 585

Isn't this the same as the 50 quid one you have just showed me in that link?

I'll have a go, Tommy

I think you have two basic ST585's

version 5 and version 6

I suspect there are differences in the chipsets, and it may be that the latest firmware upgrades will only work with version 6 (not sure though)

I don't think the (i) in ST585(i) actually means anything, ie., it is not a different model.

Happy for others more knowledgable to contradict me!

There is some bad advice or incorrect comments in some of the other posts.

The (i) is VERY significant. It indicates that the ST585 is the ISDN variant . There are two models, one for use on the UK's analogue systems and one which operates on ISDN lines - which is not available in the UK.

You need to ensure you do not get the wrong one - although most UK suppliers will not normally stock the (i) version.

Download and read the installation guide from here

585i is the ISDN variant. 585 is the POTS variant.

The boxes say 585(i) - note the brackets - because they use the same boxes for both variants (as well as for the manuals etc.). There should be a sticker on the box saying what is actually inside (585 or 585i)

Didn't notice that one there! I'd have not mentioned the DSL-Source one if I did...tempted to buy one myself as everyone says its so good, though I'd probably just use it for PPPoA-PPTP relay

Why is that ST585 v6 so cheaper than the other one then, is it damaged or summat?.
