DG834G v3 - annoying install wizard

[link to this post]

I tried installing a DG834G v3 - it has an install wizard that takes over the web interface to the router while you are installing, which I'm sure is great for non-technical people. However, since it couldn't sync on the ADSL line, it just refused to go any further, or provide an 'expert mode', and the only option was to exit.

Does anyone know a way around this? I'm not averse to re-flashing to the v2 firmware if that helps. This is for use on a traditional 512K ADSL line, but would like it to be compatible with ADSL Max as well.

It's also somewhat confusing how 192.168.x.x. address is redirected to www.routerlogin.com, while still in the wizard, and yet the latter address is just hosted by the router - guaranteed to create confusion amongst newbies I'd say. Presumably the install wizard mode is just faking the DNS for that site...

The v2 is compatible with ADSLmax - my parents have one that syncs at 8128kbps and stays there for months.

try pointing it to this link for router status
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=start.htm

or this link for basic settings page

By the way, do not attempt to install V2 firmware on the dg834 V3 as it is incompatible.

The V3 has a new managed switch (Marvell 88e6063 apparenlty) and a different wireless chip (TNETW1150 indicated in the firmware).
