Leaving router on 24/7?

[link to this post]

Hello.

I have just recently upgraded to Max and noticed that it's the usual thing to keep the router on all the time.

I wasn't a fan of the idea due to the how hot the AC adaptor gets (I've even replaced it in the past), but I've been asked by Zen to keep it on for 3 days due to my profile issue.

Is it normal to get hot? It's not in burn territory, but definitely hot to the touch.

Should I be looking at getting a new router?

They are all quite safe. I switch mine off overnight. I assume Zen have a particular reason for asking you to leave it switched on for 3 days.

Probably varies with the make (and maybe, model) of the router.

My DrayTeks have been on 24/7 for 4+ years - and are still nice and cool (power brick and router).

Line One:- Zen - DrayTek Vigor 2600VG
Line Two:- EntaNet - DrayTek Vigor 2600

Should not be a problem - unless you have the adapter in an enclosed space. Normal convection airflow should be enough to keep it within safe limits. However, I have seen a trend for companies to start lowering the ratings of power blocks to the minimum they can get away with to possibly save a few pence in production.

My SpeedTouch has been running for 6 years or so and only ever been turned off for minutes at a time.
