Why does my ST 585v6...............

occassionally grind to a virtual halt. By that I mean download speeds in the low 20's. A reboot cures it, but is it a sign of the router failing, currently using fw 6143?.

I've had two Speedtouch routers die on me like that (albeit older models). It's one of the reasons I gave up on Speedtouch. They would connect and sync but I ended up with abysmal performance. Reflashing the firmware didn't help. I originally thought it was a line fault but a new router fixed the problem instantly.

next time it does it try a resynch not a reboot. Could be bitswapping crapping out and low throughput caused by errors.

The 6.1.4.3 firmware you are using has a well documented bug that causes it to time out and lock up rather than re-sync, if you are using DMT maybe you are over cooking it a little. If you downgrade to 6.1.0.5 the router will reboot if it is having problems.

I used to get this a lot.

My connection used to get flooded with errors. Interleaving cured it!
