DG834GT - DGTeam Firmware....

[link to this post]

I stopped using the O2 Wireless Box II (TG585v7) because it keeps rebooting randomly several times a day at times, so currently using my Netgear DG834GT (ex-Sky) router with V1.02.16 - DGTeam Rev. 0848 firmware, and I get a sync speed of around 18.5Mbps.

With both the official Netgear firmware, and the O2WBII, I can get a sync of nearer to 20Mbps, but the Netgear official firmware does not let you use WPA2. Is there something I can change / tweak in the DGTeam settings to get this router to a similar level? Don't get me wrong, I am happy with my speeds, but it would be nice to achieve maximum smile

Under Advanced ADSL settings you should be able to adjust the target SNR down a little - to say 90% - this should give a little speed bump.

PS: If there are two varients of the f/w for the GT then use the one with the o23 ADSL driver code - it helps sync rate a little.

I did mess with it before and it did not work as I expected.

The older firmware is V1.01.32 - DGTeam Rev. 0743, currently installed is V1.02.16 - DGTeam Rev. 0848.

Does anyone know the differences between these revisions?

Other than WPA2, I didn't see any other difference in moving to 0848.

Sorry, I should've been more specific smile

I meant that if there are two variants of the v848 firmware for the GT then use the one with the o23 ADSL driver version. E.g. the DG834N has two variants of the v850 firmware where the only difference if the ADSL driver code used.

I have an 834N and flashed it with DGTeam 850 - it now reports ADSL Firmware Version A2pB023o.d20e.

It sync's about 200kbps slower than the O2 box (around the 7000kbps area), and has a maximum download speed of 81.5% of sync rather than 83.5% that the O2 box had. My own 585v6 with a Be template gave the same figures as the O2 box. IIRC the official Netgear firmware gave the same drops in performance, but I may be wrong there.

The difference for me, that makes it worthwhile, is that the two 585s lost connection below 3.5dB margin whereas the 834N holds down to 0.1dB. So I can tweak to 3.8dB target margin and gain both speed and stability overall.

The sync and throughput both disappoint me though.

Connection seems to have settled down now since BT fixed my line last week;

Connection Speed 18920 kbps 1304 kbps
Line Attenuation 17.0 db 10.3 db
Noise Margin 6.4 db 6.7 db

Happy with that.

What are your line stats RobertoS?

I believe they are quite similar to mine - i'm on an alcatel dslam and line attenuation is 48db on my DG834GT.

Any tips on firmware? I'm trying to hang onto a 5.6Mb profile but epically failing at night frown

Can sync at 7.2Mb during the day.

it seems there is only one variant for the GT frown

I noticed my netgear synchs very conservatively and from what you say the DGTeam firmware could be the reason, I use WPA-2 tho so I have to use it.

Netgear have recently released a new firmware V1.02.19 which has WPA2 enabled.

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7734

You can use that in conjunction with DMT tool for SNR tweaking, or you can download the DGTeam firmware, based around the older V1.02.16, but this has SNR tweaking built in.
