went to firewall settings then blocked it like you said....

What version of Windows is it? Check computer management > services and see if there is a service called DNS server running, or a name to that effect. If not then its possibly malware, perform a check with Spybot-S&D, and also whatever virus scanner you use, if you have one.

Try disabling DNS client and see what happens. It doesn't affect lookups for me on any browser. Enable it again if disabling causes any problem.

Not if TBB's DNS Checker reports he has an open DNS resolver running.
