BT Infinity Good for Gaming

The checker says that BT Infinity is available on 2nd March and i am thinking of ordering it Option 2 my current speed is 1.75mb down and 300 upload

I am just wondering what it is like for gaming has anybody already got it had problems or has it improved. I play a lot of call of duty and there is normally two of us on the xbox at the same time is the upload speeds and Ping good with infinity also is option 2 unlimited or will i be slowed down for using to much as i am a heavy user

Not got it myself, but people tell me that theyl end up hosting games due to the vast improvement.

Isn't it Fastpath by default, being FTTC and all that? as Virginmedia Cable i think is as such

I'm not on Infinity, I went for IDNet FTTC instead. However my estimates were 28.9/6.4Mbps. I connect at 39992/10000kbps.

Pings are 11-12ms.

It's pretty good. Pings for me are in the 20s but i'm from N. Ireland so it's a little higher than it might be on the mainland.

just make sure you dont download more than 300 gigs per month
or your speed will be cut for 30 days at peak times to 2megs i just confirmtion from BT care

So even if im on the Unlimited option 2 there is a limit does the limit only come into place at peak times or is it 300gig for the hole month as i think im a pretty heavy user plus renting an HD Movie of xbox is on everage 10Gig per film so that limit will go down fast

Yes, you have mentioned that several times now. If this worries you, use a different ISP. I am happily using BT Infinity. Have a son who is surgically attached to X-box live, three lap tops, a PC and BT Vision. No one has capped us.

Even now, nobody needs more than 300GB on a domestic service. I merely pointed out that uploads are counted, which for some people may be important. Online backups for example.

Yes, thank you, I understand about speed caps, FUP's, etc. If you feel you are likely to be going over this, then find someone else.
My point was that in a fairly internet busy household, like mine, BT Infinitys FUP was fine.

Which is kind of a moot point when no other ISP allows you to get close to that figure unless you a) pay a lot more or b) only use it at night.

I've noticed in a few threads you've been pimping this speed reduction as some sort of crime on behalf of BT but in other threads you seem to think ISPs offering dismal peak time allowances for a far higher price is "better"

To be honest, if you think 45GB for 12 hours a day is acceptable, I dunno why you'd have any issue with BT's offering which is essentially "average 10GB a day at whatever time you wish".

Perhaps you only use your internet connection to download copious amounts of "stuff" overnight for consumption at a later date but then the question is - do you use more than 300GB a month?

So who you going for?

Orl I respect that you're a very keen advocate of BT Infinity in it's purest form (from BT), however I think most agree that the manner in which you put your points across is sometimes just plain rude.

BT isn't the be-all and end-all of FTTC broadband, there are other providers out there so that the consumer has choice, whether it be on bandwidth shaping, throttling, download caps, upload speeds, etc.

BT does NOT offer the best of everything, sure, they have the most "unlimited" package (which isn't surprising as they rolled out the service). But they have severe traffic-shaping for P2P and other protocols, just ask the guys who played the RIFT beta.

A 45GB monthly cap during the hours that most people are at work is a moot point for some people, myself included; I leave the house by 8am and don't get back till 7:30pm, so whatever I download in that 30 mins counts towards my 45GB. Not exactly a big deal, plus I get no traffic shaping, better customer support and a 12 month contract instead of an 18 month. Is that better than BT Infinity? For me, yes.

I was really annoyed to find out that the upload was also included.
i have done some digging around and have found out that from april ( bt option 2 only) will have the fup removed making it 1 awsome package to have. feel free to google this as i dont want to break rules here linking.

Been on the forums for a while, and a Main Site News Article 9 March.

Nothing in the rules to stop linking to pretty much anything except personal info.

I hope your installation goes well. Mine, (IDNet not Infinity), was a dream. Now a solid 38717 IP Profile and around 12ms pings.
