What are the estimated speeds? It will be interesting to compare with the actual. Don't forget to ask the engineer what they are, and the "approximate distance from cabinet". The JDSU gives those.

i will ask the distance + sync speed, i estimated the distance myself by road in the car and its 550 metre's, the cost is £25.60, i am having a new line installed too, so not sure if that will have any impact on my current connection which i will be keeping, oh my estimated speed is 14.3 according to btw.

Same as option 2 then.

Unless you're unlucky you should probably get a bit faster than the estimate.

well im hoping for quite a bit more than the estimate, i have measured the distance by car and its under 600 metres, but even if i do only get hte estimate it will be 3 times faster than what i have atm.

Data point for you - I'm 520m from the cab in a straight line, not sure how much longer the wire run is, estimate was 26.8Mbps down 5.6 up, synced at 39995/10000 without any problems.

Actual throughput rather lower at about 24Mbps, not had chance to think about that yet

oh well bt engineer turned up today, didnt know i was having a new line installed, had to phone for confirmation, then installed new line but there were not any spare pairs to the cabinet, so now i have to wait for an underground engineer to link more pairs to the pole, oh well more waiting.

You just got acquainted with the BT Customer Service System

Too often mistakes like this happen. Dunno why or how it's allowed to continue.

That is the old Legacy system that was used prior to the the BT Undertakings and Equivalence for all CP's including BT Retail. They now use a Sieble system called Oneview or CCP.

I believe on the Option 3 product it is capped at 15Mbps. With luck once it is in they will let you upgrade. Or even more luck - I'm wrong and it isn't capped.

i have read posts of people on the bt forums, who say they have had way above 15mbs on the option 3, the only thing i know is capped is the upload speed which is only 2mb, but once i have been connected and if my speeds are sufficient i wll ask to go on the normal infinity package, as some people have already done that according to bt forums, fingers crossed it isnt capped though.

Are you speaking with insider knowledge? As far as I know no orders are placed on CSS for any of the current products.

was an insider up until a few years back wink

The size of CSS meant you couldn't just dump it and start over. Of course the technology changes over time but it's essentially an updated and extended descendant of the original.

Bit like Windows 7 being from the same lineage as NT.

I work as part of the team that delivers each CCP release to the CS Estate every 3 months. As far as I am aware CCP is a Sieble / Oracle product that has been modified for BT's own use.

No dev work is carried out on CSS as all of consumer have been migrated and Business are in the process of migrating.

yeah well it might be a while, they phoned earlier and told me the line is now active, all they need to do is activate the fibre connection, and give me a date of 9th of may which is 3 weeks away, ive already waited 3 weeks now, i complained and am now waiting for a phone call to see if they can bring that date forward.
