massive packet loss on Plusnet FTTC

[link to this post]

BQM

Seem to have an issue with my Plusnet FTTC connection. Had to reboot last night but today it seems to be struggling.

Anyone else having a problem?

No problem on IDNet. Have you phoned or ticketed PlusNet, seeing as they haven't picked up on your post a couple of hours ago in their forum here? Or tried the Plusnet Community forum?

Not quite as bad - but I was suffering last night and the previous night(BT connection):

12th May

11th May

Both are quite similar.

Called support and they want to set up a connection over PPPoE to work out what is happening.

Can't do anything till I get home but might be able to see what is going on hopefully.

OK looks like there is an exchange problem. My connection has been up and down all day with 100% packet loss.

Have logged with Plusnet support and now await the faults team to investigate.

Not what i need.

No sign of an engineer today. Rang CS and they said that if the problem was at the exchange they may not necessarily come to the house.

There does not seem to be any change in the speed of my connection. Connected at 20MB but should be closer to 37 and the upload is 657KB as opposed to nearly 10MB.

Do i have to wait for it to retrain after all the problems?

Hi,

It will depend on the exact cause of the problem and whether they've found/fixed it. Openreach will sometimes do a reset on the line profile as part of a fault fix which would cause a resync, but not always. I'd therefore suggest rebooting the BT modem and your router if it's still if it's still not back to normal and see if it changes anything.

Thanks Dave, i have done that a couple of times already and am getting very poor download speeds.

http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/results/95551702.png

and my BQM is this.

The min latency has increased from about 10 to 30.

Is it worth rebooting again?

Well i did a reboot anyway and it took me ages to get back online. The dsl light came on or a few seconds then went out again and did not come back on. A few reboots later it connected and has stayed like that till now. The connection speed is still not what it should be so whatever OR did yesterday hasnt made a difference.

My upload speed is really bad still being at about 600.

Missed appointment as brother was still in bed and wife was out!!

Wife came back and engineer was at the end of the street but refused to come back as he no longer had the job on his system.

Now going to be Friday or next week.

Pathetic. I know its not the fault of the engineer that no one answered the door but he could at least have come back. Said he didnt have a choice.

Brother - yes.

He will have immediately logged it as nobody in, as he has to do that to move on to the next job. So as he said, it was no longer on his job-list so he had no choice.

Okay, managed to have someone available in the house to see the OR engineer.

He tested the line and all was okay. Checked from the master socket and the speed was normal. He the replaced the modem and the speeds jumped up to normal. The BQM is also showing this.

The minimum ping has gone from over 30ms to under 10ms. Brother ran an inital speed test and its connected at 34MB.

My brother also heard the engineer mention historic faults on the line though I'm not sure what this meant.

So all in all happy to be back up to speed again.

Hi,

I can see a note from one of my colleagues that the engineer's been and replaced the modem. How are things looking now?

Out of interest, is the OR VDSL modem wall mounted ? If it ain't, I'd strongly suggest doing it yourself, a couple of holes at 100ml centres will do the trick, and the modem will run much cooler.

Can't say for certain but my brother said the speed is looking a lot better at 34/8 when yesterday it was 20/0.6.

Will give it a proper test tonight and see how things are.

I had thought of doing this but havent got around to doing it. I will look at tdoing that over the weekend. Currently it is sitting on the desk on one end leaning against the printer to try and do this but will look at a more permanent fixture.

Dave,

The speed has dropped out again.

I agree, my modem is mounted on the wall near my front door where the master socket is, it hardly get warm at all, my friends is just left on the table and his gets hot, massive difference in temp.
