FTTC Bracknell

[link to this post]

Hi all,

Does anyone have any firm info on Bracknell? I live in the RG42 area and CAB87 is about 150m from me as the cable runs

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=rg423xa&hl=en&ll=51....

I did try VM for a couple of weeks but it was fast but unreliable and VM were unable to fix so I await infinity, hopefully it will be coming to my CAB?

Regards,

Paul

According to the December Data your postcode is supposed to have had the upgrade to FTTC...Your connected to cab 87. The DSL checker says you can't get it as yet so it might have been delayed

Would you be able the check the details for RG129RW?

I can't actually see a large cabinet anywhere near my house (only much smaller boxes which could be BT cabinets?) so am concerned I'll never be able to get FTTC frown

Hi your cab 83 is planned for FTTC, from the December spreadsheet, though with it being in phase 5b it should have already been deployed

THBK BRACKNELL RG129RW {THBK}{P83} 0 100% 52.51 5b Yes FTTC

Here is your cab, if you go and check their should be a FTTC twin next to the existing cabinet.

I live in Bracknell (RG12 9YA) and have been watching the status of FTTC for the exchange. It was Dec 2010, then Dec 2011, now Dec 2012. No sign of any FTTC cabs near where I live. I walk past two BT cabs on my way to get a Sunday paper.

Thanks for finding it for me. I went to check on the way back from work but there was no new cabinet next to it. Any chance it wouldn't be right next to it?

Exchange still doesn't have a date set so even if the cabinet was done I still couldnt get it frown

I'm sure I've seen at least one fttc cabinet on a road not that far from me, that's the only one though.

Try this:

Looks like you're split between two cabinets for that postcode:
THBK,BRACKNELL,RG129GN,{THBK}{P103},0,98%,,,,
THBK,BRACKNELL,RG129GN,{THBK}{P104},0,1%,,,,

98% of lines are on cabinet 103, and 1% on cabinet 104. However there is no other data, no speed upgrade percentage, no phase number or anything in the December data. frown

The FTTC twin is either right next to the existing cab or within 50 meters of it, for instance on the otherside of the road.
Its not a exchange upgrade but rather a cabinet upgrade that allows you to get the service, so once the exchange goes live if your cabinet does not have a FTTC twin then you are unable to recieve the service.

Seeing as their are quite a few cabinets missing in bracknell their has either been a major delay or cabinets have been removed, all the information we have is from December 2011.

I would suggest contacting the council and possibly the local MP see if they can put some light on the situation in bracknell.

Yes I am surprised that Bracknell has not been enabled yet it being one of the major counties in the Thames Valley. Wokingham Reading and Slough have all been enabled and Bracknell left behind. As soon as itís available in my area I will move to it straight away so I can leave this oversubscribed Virgin media and get a decent lag free gaming experience.

Well considering the amount of exchanges that have been enabled for FTTC in the east of Berkshire, its understandable to have the delay in Bracknell, lots of large towns in a small area.

Its most likely Bracknell has slipped further down the phases from 5b as that was last year, currently in about phase 8a/8b but this depends on the area as the more resouces avaliable speed up the rollout.
Though Bracknell will be next in the area as every large exchange around it has been enabled for FTTC, though their is likely infill happening on those exchanges.

It turns out there are two cabinets near Harmans Water shops, they are less than 70m apart.

When looking from the road towards the shops, PCP58 is to the right of the car park entrance and does NOT have an FTTC cab, PCP52 is to the left, near St Paul's church, and DOES have an FTTC cab.

TalkTalk have unbundled, so you can get services from talktalk retail, or from other companies using TalkTalk Wholesale, such as Viviciti and UNO.

The BT network in that area doesn't even do ADSL2+. Don't confuse TalkTalk wholesale's network with TalkTalk retail - if you bought from Vivaciti for example using the TTwholesale network you wouldn't ever deal with TalkTalk themselves. Like you don't deal with BTwholesale when you buy a BTw powered service.

Near to martins heron station.

It seems that this is one of the first cabinets to allow orders. I've checked 2 other Bracknell phone numbers and neither can order yet.

ADSL speeds are really low here and there isn't much access to virgin media so maybe that's why these ones were done first, makes commercial sense. Although I didn't receive an email from BT even though I had registered a few times to be notified when it was available. Lucky I checked every day (a few times, lol)

Hope yours is enabled soon!

Shame we don't get the yellow pins for the cabs - it'd be nice to be able to take a couple of days off from checking.

OK, I'm not as patient as I'd like to think.
I finally gave in and sent the question to [email protected] and got the following very helpful reply.

Hello Steve,

Thank you for your interest in fibre broadband.

The cab that serves your premises, cab 61, is scheduled for deployment in January 2013,the cabinet in question is current planned as FTTC.

There is ongoing work requiring traffic management which has a completion date of November.

Please be aware that the engineering required to commission a Fibre Broadband cabinet is often complex and should conditions on the ground change, there is a small risk that the delivery date may be effected. Please track the date for commissioning through the line checker of your chosen service provider.

Regards

OK, it's a bit disappointing, but at least I can stop checking availability on a daily basis.
So, roll on January . . . . or Feb, or Mar . . . Ooo. Just in time for fibre on demand!

Any missed residential cabinets not in the commerical deployment will likely be covered by the Superfast Berkshire project- contract should be awarded by February (Openreach are likely to be the only bidders but will see infill of missed cabinets.)

A bit of progress!

For the 1st time, the OR checker is forecasting FTTC.

"Your cabinet is planned to have WBC FTTC by 31st December 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 61.8Mbps and upstream line speed of 20Mbps."

Still waiting, but it's another step forward.

All I need now is for O2 / BE to sort out FTTC so I can stay with them.

FTTC Bracknell

[re: sandacol] [link to this post]

Hello everybody,

Could you help me find out when my area of Bracknell is getting FTTC? My postcode is RG12 8BD and my local CAB is P108. I still have not seen any FTTC boxes in Jennett's Park but i'm not sure on the broadband situation around here.

thanks in advance

Jannett's Park is a new build estate and they are generally excluded in the inital rollout for a number of reasons.
However the estate will either be upgraded via infill by Openreach which happens after a exchange goes live with the first round of cabinets or it will be upgraded via the BDUK project for Berkshire- 'Superfast Berkshire' Anywhere between Mid 2013-2015.

You can contact Openreach via this email, you will need to say your phone number and address, as they will ask for this to give you the correct information, it will take between 5-10 days for them to respond.
Will say if your cabinet will be part of the commerical deployment or upgraded via the BDUK project.

108 is due to be upgraded next June. Openreach informed me of this a couple of weeks ago, when I asked about my cabinet - which I thought was 108 but was in fact 100! Haven't had a chance to go back to them to see if 100 is also due for FTTC in June.

Just looked at the BT line checker and BT Infinity has moved from 31st December 2012 to 31st March 2013. I live in Hanworth and currently receive ~4Mbps.

Really not happy frown

As has been said in numerous other threads over the last 48 hours, the end quarter dates are just holding dates indicating BT Openreach's likely prediction for Ready for Service.

Many of these dates are met some time before the end of the quarter. However, some are not and are pushed back - in the case of my exchange, numerous times, the last being for six months. The exchange quietly went Ready for Service six weeks before the end of the most recent 'end of quarter' date.

If work is underway, BT Openreach may well deliver service before the end of March. The changed date merely reflects the reality that it is unlikely to be possible to commission any more cabinets before the end of the year.

Even if your exchange went RFS now, you'd be unlikely to get an install date much before the middle of January.

It IS moving forward.
Cab61 (Binfield) went RTO on Friday (I think).
I've ordered with Plusnet - Install on the 18th, AM.
BT wholesale estimate 62/20.
