Phase 9a means pretty little.

A lot of Openreach's deployments are overdue.

They are probably 3 to 5 months behind schedule at a guess.. bit ofc, BT won't release that infos.

Just be glad your getting it.

Think phase 9 is set for 2013.
Now when in 2013 is anyone's guess

Am on phase 8 and set for September this year. So will expect them to start sometime in 2015 for me

When I use the BT online checker for a "9a" FTTC deployment in Exmouth it says the service will be available by the 30th of September.

Our exchange is 7A with a RFS date of June.
The first cabinets were only installed 3 weeks ago.

Phase 9 with September date seems very optimistic imho

I think some of the comments so far have been a bit pessimistic. Individual exchanges from previous phases being delayed doesn't mean yours will be delayed. BT announced your exchange would be upgraded last December and so at that point had a pretty good idea how things were going at other exchanges, which includes how good they were at estimating the roll out schedule.

The thinkbroadband article suggested most of the exchanges in this batch (which covered 8a, 8b and 9a) would be done by the end of 2012.

My area's cabinets are all phase 8a for activation on June 2012. Is this number good or bad? I've seen some people here mention 17a as well

9a is December 2012

9b is March 2012

Hope that helps. But as people have said some cabs are late. This is due to other issues (like power etc) however.

June 2012 was the original target for 8a. Those with a phase lower than 8a with a date of June 2012 would suggest that they were planned to be active earlier but have slipped.

17a is not a phase, but relates to the frequencies used by the modem.

I'll confirm that, my area is is a phase 7b area and it's slipped to June 2012. Looking at the number of cabinets that are there that have big holes around them for the last 4-6 weeks with no evidence of any work taking place, it's probably going to slip again.

Same here. I`m on the border of two towns (Bromborough/Eastham) both announced as phase 7 back March 2011.

Mine, Eastham was then announced again, this time as phase 8a (for June 12)
Bromborough was enabled last month (March).

For mine, samknows previously showed dates of Sept 11, Dec 11, March 12, June 1st and now June 30th 2012. There are some signs thats its on its way though with BT's red paint DSLAM next to where the new cabs will go.

I Can Beat That - Phase 5b

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

Still not done, no new cabinet constructed yet.

Not that Openreach are behind schedule or anything, honestly.

The problem is they are being very careful to state that they have enabled exchanges passing x number of homes, rather than stating the actual amount of homes the fibre network passes. That would be a considerably lower number.

Finally some activity today; Openreach have dug up at the road next to some cabs round here. (passed 5 cabs on my travels and 3 had roadworks). There is grey tubing sticking out of the ground ready for the new cabinet.

Passed 6 cabs yesterday, 4 of them have had new ones installed, 3 of them need the pavement tidying up still. The other 2 just have the red BT paint by them so they could be ones they come back to later on. The one I think I am on (the one I am closest to anyway) has been done. Will wait for power and accepting orders now smile

OK a little update....

They dug up the road to connect the power to all of the cabs 2 weeks ago. On Monday the BT Checker finally showed a date of Sept 30th for my exchange.

Wednesday the power went live and Friday the BT checker updated to show available (the when where site still shows coming soon).
I placed an order Friday am and the earliest slot is Oct 2nd.

Phase 9 Exchanges are not likely to start going live until Q2 2013 at best and may well slip fromthat as they are so far behind with the earler phases

The phase numbering became largely irrelevent to timing: As BT added exchange (in later phases) the timing for them slotted inbetween existing plans. This has certainly been the case since around phase 5, and I imagine it continues even now....

I was on a 9a and this has just gone live. You jut have to wait for the new green cabinets arriving and then you will get the service 4-7 weeks later.

Yes, I have. That was a month ago and they replied that there were duct blockages preventing the fibre from being deployed. They expected it would be live at the end of September/beginning of October but I'm not holding my breath...
