Im moving next week and been to look around the new place today theres a new cab 20 meters from front door .
Just came of phone from BT and they are telling me the postcode ive been giving for the new place is wrong . Ive checked on the post office site and got another postcode did a fibre search and it says 9mb only .
But when i search a mates address 40 meters away he gets the full 80/20 same cabnet .
just clicked on bt openreach where n when site did my post office postcode and house number and it says the following .
Exchange name: Church Stretton
Status: Accepting orders
Good news. Your serving cabinet is enabled for fibre broadband. Please note, in a minority of instances that doesn't guarantee your availability. Contact your preferred communications provider for your home or business to order.
help anyone ?

Are you getting these figures from http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome using the full address option in each case? And the cabinet number is the same in each case? Sounds like a possible database error if so.

Yes, the Royal Mail database is the only one that counts. The usual answer would be to order a product and see what happens, but with an estimate as low as 9Mbps you might even have trouble doing that. Over to someone with more knowledge to check it out - maybe you could post the postcode here.
Edit: just seen PM.
Further edit: that confused me more as there are two different streets involved. I'll reply to one of the PMs.

The addresses in Willow Meadow (SY6 6EH) are showing as FTTC not available, those in Lawley Close (SY6 6EL) are showing as FTTC up to 80/20 (and with much higher ADSL speeds). Both show as cabinet 9 on the Church Stretton exchange so it looks like something is wrong on the database. You will not be able to order FTTC at all in Willow Meadow as it stands.

So, who says you're connected to a cabinet? You may be on an EO line.
The BT Wholesale checker says it's connected to a cabinet!

Very true, but I think it's unlikely the address checker would say it was connected to a cabinet if it wasn't. I just checked telephone number vs address checker for my address and the results were absolutely identical.

It seems to be a database error on BT's DSL Checker page.
It says you can get FTTP on Demand Address 1 WILLOW MEADOW, CHURCH STRETTON, SY6 6EH on Exchange CHURCH STRETTON is served by Cabinet 9
...
WBC ADSL 2+ Up to 9 -- -- Available
...
Other Offerings
FTTP on Demand 330 30 -- Available With no mention of FTTC.

The checker also mentions "Fibre Multicast", without mentioning any individual FTTC speeds.
That is usually an indication that the property is connected to an FTTC cab, but that it is too far to receive service (probably beyond 2km).
Interestingly, Google maps knows where "SY6 6EL" is located, as it zooms in close. However, using "SY6 6EH" causes it to zoom out, and show the whole "SY6" area. It just doesn't understand that postcode. Same for Bing.
When I look at Google maps, I can't see "Willow Meadow" (either map or satellite), but on Bing maps, it looks like it could be a new build at the end of Lawley close.
I wonder if this is such a new build that no-one has lived there before? The postcode is too new?
In this case, perhaps the BT database has taken default/wrong location information about the postcode, and used the latitude/longitude to estimate the distance from the cabinet ... and concluded that it is just too far.

Bingo was waiting to check what geo databases gave for postcode after breakfast

yes its a new build and its not on google map yet . any idea what happens now then ? am i best to wait till my phone line is in the new place then look again ..

It is also not a postcode with a lat lng in the OS database from during 2014, so Google and plenty of other places won't understand it for a while.
As its a new postcode then solution is to get the telephone line installed and take it from there and order based the telephone number.

cant belive im going back to adsl upto 9mb . gutted just home its not for long . .i think i best let the housing know they are giving people the wrong postcode aswell ..

It may NOT be the wrong postcode at all, but a new postcode that has been assigned and once everyone picks up the Royal Mail database will eventually filter down.

It is showing on the Royal Mail website as a valid address for SY6 6EH - http://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode
Virgin Cable (50/3) + EE Mobile BB

The Post Office should not be wrong, they are the postcode master database, so if that is not tallying with your actual road, then chase whoever gave you that postcode, and show them what the Post Office is showing.
This will potentially affect many things like insurance costs, credit ratings and much more which key off the postcode

Also if you type the postcode in here https://www.plus.net/ without a phone line the full address comes up for willow meadow . same with the bt site . so it looks this is 110% the correct postcode?

cheers im on it now . ringing the housing were we got the new house from. did call them last night and they told me i was wrong will try again

If your property is in Willow Meadow then yes would seem the correct postcode, tres confused on which actual road you are actually in.
The point that the Post Office is the master list and thus will take time for a new postcode to filter through still applies. Advice is to get a telephone line installed and running and then once the phone number has filtered through the Openreach systems it should adjust your broadband ordering choices.

since emailing openreach yesterday the where and when website has changed it now says the following .
Exploring solutions
These exchange areas still need to go through a period of detailed survey work which will enable Openreach to plan the network. Once this has been completed the exchange area will show more detail for the delivery of faster broadband.
|
|
|
Best to stick to https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
The openreach site can give mixed messages as things seem to shift around a lot more for no apparent reason on the openreach site.

well its now over 4 weeks since i put in for my phone line to be moved to my new address .
last 2 weeks ago i had a email and txt saying some 1 was comming to plum me in but they didnt turn up . then a week after some 1 turned up knocked on door and said hes here to put my phoneline in but then said it looks like nun of the cableing has been fitted in the drains.
he opened a drain and was right empty. 4 days later 2 blokes turned up and wired all the drains and to each new build along my road. 1 and a half days for 13 homes.
After speaking with bt they said a open reach worker will be out tuesday to check and it will be signed off if all is good on the 24th . He turned up at 9am but tryed to open a drain cover but failed even with that metal thing they use then he went.
had a call from bt they have gave me £30 off my bill due to having to top up my phone for emails ect (im on three £15 a month all you can eat ) they are also letting me have bt infinity 2 80/20 for 12 months for 17.99 then phone line.
thoses who i sent my addreess to and post code its now showing 80/20

10. Signal Attenuation: 0.0 / 23.5

Nothing wrong with those figures. Except ... I would normally expect to see the Line and Signal attenuations being similar values.or certainly a lot closer than that. That said, don't worry to much about it

They are tremendous figures!
I guess, from the earlier posts, that there aren't many other residents making use of it yet.
The oddity is indeed the attenuation figures. Not just because of the variation, but the amount. My line is 100m long, with around 8dB attenuation - 14 or 23 db are both quite high for a distance of 30m!
|
|
|
He may not be just 30m though! The cabinet could be 20m followed by another 10-50m to the PCP and then routed back to the house with a rise up a pole and more ... so it "could" suddenly become 150m!
